The titles of Hazrat Mahdi (as)

AL MAHDI: He who has attained salvation


AL HADI: He who leads to salvation, the true path


AL QA’IM: He who stands for the truth


AL HUJJAT: Definitive proof that cannot be denied


AL MUNTADHAR: Awaited by everyone


MAHDI AL MUNTADHAR: The awaited Mahdi


IMAM AL MUNTADHAR: The awaited imam (spiritual leader)


KHALAF AL-SALIH: Caliph of the saints of Allah (spiritual leader)


MANSUR: Assisted by Allah


SAHIB AL-AMR: Responsible for implementing divine justice


SAHIB AZ-ZAMAN: Owner of the time


WALI AL-ASR: Guardian of the century, sole ruler of time, sole guide in time


MAHDI AL MAWUD: The promised Mahdi


IMAM AL-ASR: Imam of the century (spiritual leader)


SAHIB AD-DÂR: Owner of the land (spiritual leader)


BAQIYATULLAH: Last guide and spiritual leader of Allah remaining on Earth


QA'IM AL MUHAMMAD (AS): The Mahdi who will appear and is descended from the line of our Prophet (saas)


AL KHATIM: He who reads the Qur’an from beginning to the end, he who leads to the end


NAHİYAT AL-MUQADDAS: Sanctified aspect, the almightiest and holiest






Abd al-Malik al-Shafi'i al-Makki al-'Isami (1111): A well-known historian living in Macca. In his four-volume work known as the “Simt al-Nujum al'awali” he writes: “Among the names of Hazrat Mahdi (as) are HUJJAT, KHALAF AL-SALIH, QA’IM, MUNTADHAR, SAHIB AZ-ZAMAN AND, BEST KNOWN OF ALL, THE MAHDI...”

Al-Qaraqhulli writes in his book the Jawharat al-Kalam: “... The names of the Mahdi are THE MAHDI, QA’IM, MUNTADHAR, SAHIB AZ-ZAMAN, HUJJAT...

(Jawharat al-Kalam, p. 157)



Al-Arif Abdul Rahman Sufi is the author of the Persian-language book “Mi’rat al-Asrar.” Shah Waliullah Dahlawi, father of Abdolaziz Dahlawi, author of the book “Ithna Ashariya,” quotes from him in his book “Al Intibah Fi Salasil e Awliya Allah,” saying this of the Imam az-Zaman [Hazrat Mahdi (as)]: ... (THE NAMES OF HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) ARE THE MAHDI, HUJJAT, QA’IM, MUNTAZAR AND SAHIB-AL ZAMAN.


Omar Ibn Zahir relates:
"Someone asked Imam Jaffar Sadiq, "Can we address the Qaim [Hazrat Mahdi (as)] as Commander of the Faithful? The imam replied; "No, Almighty Allah has given that title to the Hazrat Ali (as) alone, and nobody after him can be known by that name." The man then asked, "HOW CAN WE GREET HIM [HAZRAT MAHDI (AS)]?" HE ANSWERED: "GREETINGS TO YOU O BAQIYATULLAH."
