1.Allah, the Almighty, has delegated all the
affairs of this world to Imam Mahdi
(a.t.f.s.).

2.He (a.t.f.s.) has been granted a light
through which he can see as well as hear
all things, far and near.

3.For Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.), the universe is
as clear as his palm.

4.Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) has the power to
traverse the earth within moments (tayy
al-arz).

5.All the miracles of the previous Prophets
(a.s.) are with Imam-e-Zamaan (a.t.f.s.).
Through these, he (a.t.f.s.) will complete
the arguments against his enemies.

6.Imam-e-Zamaan (a.t.f.s.) has the
heavenly staff of Prophet Musa (a.s.),
which was brought to him by Jibrail
(a.s.).Through this staff, Imam-e-Zamaan
(a.t.f.s.) can perform the miracles of
Prophet Moosa (a.s.) like the staff
becoming a python in the hands, gushing
forth of water from the stones and
providing for food.

7.Like Prophet Ibrahim (a.s.), Imam
Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) will emerge safe and secure
from blazing fire.

8.Skeletal bones, more than a thousand
years old, will converse with Imam Mahdi
(a.t.f.s.).

9.Like Prophet Daud (a.s.), iron will
soften like wax in the hands of Imam
Mahdi (a.t.f.s.).

10.Physically, Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) will be
so strong that he can uproot a tree with
his hands. If he addresses a mountain in
a stern tone, it will crumble into pieces.

The Muslim Messiah(By Dr. Young Oon Kim)

(The Imam and Mahdi)For Jews the Messiah is the long-awaited man "anointed of God" to provide the chosen people and the world at large with a just, durable and peaceful social order in accordance with the Torah and God's ultimate purpose for mankind. For Christians Jesus was the Messiah (Greek: "Christ") who came to fulfill that hope, teach men the religion of love, serve as an example of what God expects of His children, cleanse them of original sin, joint them toward the kingdom to come wherein God's will would be done on earth as it is in heaven. Since the first advent did fully accomplish this, traditional Christianity looks forward to the return of the Messiah to complete the restoration of the world. Like many Christians, not all Muslims expect an end of the world g the immediate future. However, Sunnite doctrine teaches that at some future time, a Mahdi will come to establish the kingdom of God on earth. Shi'ites believe that this Mahdi to come will be the hidden Imam they have long awaited. For Muslims the Imam-Mahdi is a figure with a function comparable to that of the Christian Messiah. Thus, like Judaism and Christianity, Islam can be called a messianic faith.(The Doctrine of the Imam) For Shi'ite Muslims the Imam holds the most exalted position available to man, second only to the Prophet Muhammad. Besides being considered the living Proof of God, he is called the Caliph of god, the Representative of those sent in the past (e.g., the Prophets Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus), the Guardian of the secrets of the two worlds, the Last Gift of God, the Door of approach to God, the Light of God that will never be extinguished.Majlisi's Life of Hearts, a work of the late 17th century written by the most famous Persian theologian, provides a full (explanation of the Imam in Shi'ite thought." As in the Quran God says to Abraham, "Truly I appoint you as a Leader (imam) of men" (II, 118), an 8th century thinker declared: "... so the Lord of We Worlds has not left your members and senses without an imam guide to explain what He desires and to banish their doubts. Can we think, therefore, that He has left all creation in confusion and pas not given mankind an imam in order that they may take their doubts and uncertainties to him, that he may guide them to the truth and set them free from doubt?"The Imams asserted: "We are the leaders of the Muhammadans and the Proofs of God among all men, and through us, on the Day of Judgement, the Shi'ites will approach Paradise with their faces and hands and feet pure white, as though they had been washed with light. As the leaders of the faithful we will save the people of the Earth from the wrath of God. As long as the stars are the guards of the sky, the angels also have no fear of the Judgement, for as long as we are on the Earth the Judgement will not come and punishment will not occur. But when we shall be taken from the Earth, this will be a sign of its destruction and of the death of all those dwelling upon it...."Two corollary beliefs about the Imam follow from his high position. First, as the representative of God, the Imam is sinless. Since there are definite statements in the Quran that all men, including Muhammad, are subject to sin, the Shi'ite theologians have to qualify their belief in the sinless Imam. Sometimes the Imam himself must repent. Though usually the Imams' "desires are fixed on God and his service, and their thoughts are bound to exalted things," they occasionally "descend from these heights, and busy themselves in eating or drinking or in sexual matters, things that are inconsequential" and voluntarily "call these acts sinful and ask forgiveness for them."" Second, the Imam recognises that all his purity, knowledge and talent are bestowed upon him as a gift revealing the great kindness of God. For any human to be chosen to the imamate is nothing less than an act of divine grace. For the Shi'ite, therefore, the Imam serves as the mediator before God on behalf of his followers. By following the Imam, they will be recipients of Allah's mercy. The classic Imam for Shi'ite Muslims was Husain, the son of Ali. Husain was one of many casualties of the bloody disagreement among those claiming to be Muhammad's successors, but because he died for his faith, he is treated as a valuable intercessor God. His death is therefore commemorated as a voluntary and redemptive offering for the sins of the Muslim world."(The Hidden Imam) According to Twelve-Imam Shi'ism, Imam Hasan al-Askari Iraq (d. circa 865 A.D.) appointed his six or seven-year-old son , succeed him. This child, Muhammad, seems to have been a markable person about whom all kinds of marvelous tales have been preserved." When Imam Hasan died, his words to his son were: "O my dear child, you are the Master of the Age, you are the Mahdi, you are the Proof of God on earth, my child, my Representive, and, as my offspring, you are Muhammad, my good son, a child of the Apostle, the last of the Imams, pure and virtuous. The apostle of God has informed the people about you."Imam Hasan passed away, and soon after, the son disappeared. According to one story, he walked down the steps into the cellar of his home and vanished. Some sceptics of the time say that Hasan never had an heir. Others claim a boy was born who died during the Imam's lifetime. Shi'ites, however, believe he is still alive but in concealment, and by God's will he shall reappear at the End of Time. Iranian Muslims treasure a large number of stories , about this Hidden Imam, how he miraculously reappeared at the .." funeral of his father, how he has revealed himself to believers in time of need, etc. For centuries it has been believed that the Hidden Imam can help those who send him brief letters. In Majlisi's , handbook for pilgrims, a sample form is provided for those who ," wish to contact the concealed Master of the Age. These practices may be dismissed with derision by Westerners, but they testify to an apocalyptic dimension to Islam. For the Muslim, as for the follower of Jesus, life can be infused with eschatological and messianic hope. Orthodox Christianity awaits the second coming of Christ; Shi'ite Islam looks forward to the reappearance of the concealed Imam. In many ways there are remarkable parallels between the Messiah-to-come and the long-expected Mahdi.According to the Shi'ite theologian, on the Day of Judgment a great resurrection of the dead will occur. The most evil men will return to earth to be punished for their wickedness, especially their persecution of the faithful. This resurrection will be limited to both the notorious evildoers and the Muslim saints and martyrs. Others will remain in their graves. In this preliminary judgement, followers of the Hidden Imam will be able to punish their oppressors.Another prophecy, equally dramatic, describes the appearance of Sa'if ibn Said, the Anti-Christ or Dajjal (The Deceiver), who will attract a multitude of followers. According to the Muslim apocalypticists, the Anti-Christ will be a Jew and the son of a sorcerer. How can we know when he comes? Islamic writers warn that the approach of Dajjal will be marked by several ominous signs. Large numbers of people will no longer pray. Religion will lose its grip on the masses. Moral laxity will become widespread and fashionable. There will no longer be any of the traditional respect for law and order. And at least since Ibn Babawaihi, who died in 1053 A.D., Muslims have predicted that a women's liberation movement of the most shocking sort will signal the End of the Age."

Sifat-sifat Peribadi

O Allah! Reform conditions of Your servant and caliph with those means by which You have reformed conditions of Your messengers and prophets. Surround him with the angels and support him with the Holy Spirit. Appoint protectors from the front and behind him, (those) who would guard him from all troubles and calamities. Convert his fear into security, (so that) he may worship only You and doesn't associate anybody with You. Do not make any of Your creatures an authority over Your vicegerent. O my Allah! O He who sees clearly through what hearts and minds desire secretly, makes good and settles all complaints, knows full well the ins and outs of whatever is kept undisclosed, the ultimate fulfillment of all desires! O He who is the prime source of happiness for the (faithful) servants! O He who deals with gently and grants favours! O He who overlooks with subtle finesse! O He who gives without strings attached! O He who is not unaware of the covering darkness of nights, the roaring clamour of the seas, the supporting columns (substance) of the skies, the locked, shut up hindrance of disorder! O He for whom (whatever is in) darkness is as visible as (in) light! I beseech Thee in the name of the splendour of Thy kind and gentle style that made bright the "view" on the mountain, by leveling it to the ground, the flash of which made Moosa prostrate himself in adoration; and in the name of Thy name that has raised (suspended) the skies without (supporting) pillars, and spread the earth on the stable surface of the water; in the name of Thy pure name written clearly, kept well guarded and treasured, which brings results whenever invoked, grants favours whenever a request is made; in the name of Thy Holy, Sacred and Decisive name which is superior to all lights, a "light" that lights up all lights, the earth got split when came into contact with it, the heavens made an opening when it reached there, and when it came near the Arsh (Divine seat of authority) it went wild with joy (rapt in delight); in the name of Thy name which makes Thy Angels change to and fro with ease their movement. I beseech Thee in the name of Jabra-eel, Meekaa-eel and Israafeel; in the name of Muhammad Al Mustafa, blessings of Allah be on him and on his children, and on all the Prophets and on the Angels; in the name of the name with Khizr recited to walk over the tidal waves as he used to walk on the hard level ground; in the name of Thy name which divided the sea (laid open a track of land) for Moosaa but drowned Firawn and his followers, and delivered safely (to the shore) Moosa son of Imran together with those who were with him; in the name of Thy name which summoned Moosa son of Imran to come to the blessed Toor, and gave answer to his request, filled him with Thy love; in the name of Thy name which Eesaa son of Maryam used for bringing the dead to life, (which) made the just born (Eesaa) talk clearly (sitting) in his cradle, (and when he grew up) cure the born blind and the lepers; in the name of Thy name which makes the bearers of Thy Arsh, Jibraa-eel, Meekaa-eel, Israafeel, Thy intimate friend and confidant, Muhammad (blessings of Allah be on him and on his children), Thy confidential Angels, the Prophets appointed by Thee, and Thy chosen upright servants among the inhabitants of the heavens and the earths, pray fro Thy blessings; in the name of Thy name Zunnoon (Yoonus) recited to invoke Thee; (when he went off in anger and deemed that we had no power over him but he cried out in the darkness, saying. "There is no god save Thee. Be Thou glorified! Verily, I have been a wrongdoer." Then We heard his prayer and saved him from the anguish. Thus We save the believers, in the name of Thy great name Dawood recited and prostrated himself in adoration, so Thou forgave him; in the name of Thy name Aasiya wife of Firawn recited when she said: "My Lord! Build for me a home with Thee in the Paradise, and deliver me from Firawn and his work, and deliver me from evildoing folk;" then Thou heard her prayer; in the name of Thy name Ayyoob recited when he was surrounded by calamities and Thou removed that adversity (from which he suffered), and Thou gave him his household (that he had lost) and like thereof alongwith them, a mercy from Thy (store), and remembrance for the worshippers; in the name of Thy name that gave back sight to Yaqoob and also brought together him and the apple of his eyes, Yoosuf; in the name of Thy name that bestowed on Sulayman a Kingdom, such as did not belong to any after him, verily Thou art the Bestower; in the name of Thy name which requisitioned "Buraaq" (on which the Holy Prophet ascended to heaven) for Muhammad (blessings of Allah and peace be for him and his children), when the Praiseworthy said: Glorified be He who carried His servant by night from the "inviolable place of worship" to the "Far distant place of worship", and said he (the Holy Prophet): "Glorified be He who has subdued these unto us, and we were not capable (of subduing them), and verily, unto our Lord we return"; in the name of Thy name with which Jibra-eel was commissioned to call upon Muhammad, blessings of Allah be on him and on his children; in the name of Thy name Adam recited to seek Thy forgiveness, so Thou overlooked his mistake, and allowed him to stay in Thy Paradise. I beseech Thee in the name of the evident proof of the glorious, decisive Holy Quran, in the name of the preserving reason and good Muhammad, the last Prophet, has, in the name of the sincerity of Ibraheem, in the name of the just and lawful decisions Thou will make on the Day of Judgement, in the name of the "what is as it ought to be" comparison and compensation system that will be set up; and the "books of accounts" which shall be laid open, in the name of the real and true writing (Qalam); and the slate (Lawh) contains, in the name of the Glory of the name Thou and written on the borders of the "Arsh", two thousand years before Thou created the sun, the moon, the earth and all that has been created. I testify that there is no god save Allah, He is Single, has no associate; and that Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger. I beseech Thee in the name of Thy name Thou keeps an eye on, safely treasured in Thy unknowable depository, known to Thee alone, no one from among Thy creation can (even) snatch a momentary view, nor the nearby Angels, nor the appointed Prophets, nor any chosen servant. I beseech Thee in the name of They name that separated the oceans, hoisted the mountains, made day and night follow each other, for the sake of "the twice revealed seven verses" (Al-Fatih'ah) and the Great Quran, for the sake of the "noble scribes" "(Kiramul Kaatibeen-the Angels who write down our deeds), for the sake of "Taha". "Yaa Seen", "Kaf-Ha-Yaa-Ayyn- Saad", "Ha-Meem-Ayyn- Seen-Qaaf", for the sake of Tawrayt, given to Moosaa; and Injeel, given to E'esaa and Zuboor, given to Dawood; and the Holy Quran, given to Muhammad (Allah's blessings be on him and on his children and on the Messengers) and for the sake of ) "I am I" (Allah had said to Moosaa). O my Allah! I beseech Thee, in the name of the conference that took place between Thee and Moosaa son of Imran on the mountain of "Toor Seenaa". I beseech Thee in the name of Thy name that gives a sign to the "Angel of Death" at the time of taking away souls from the bodies. I beseech Thee in the name of Thy name, written on the leaf of (an) olive tree, the leaf (which) calmed down the flames of the fire, (when) Thou said: "Be coolness and peace (for Ibraheem)." I beseech Thee in the name of Thy name Thou wrote on the canopy, covering the "surpassing glory and generosity". O He! Those (who) make repeated requests, and those who get what they want, do not make Him suffer loss. O He who is besought; and unto Him turn (all) to take refuge. I beseech Thee in the name of "hard of understand" rare but highly satisfying and loving kindness, out flowing from Thy "seat of authority" (Arsh), and the endless mercy, outpouring form Thy Book' in the name of Thy "Ismi Azam" (The Great Name of Allah), They boundless resources, and Thy complete, perfect "words" of highest excellence. O my Allah! Lord of the winds, (and of that which they carry off, sprinkle and scatter), and the skies, (and of that which they cover, shade and support), and the earth, (and of that which it bears and carry), and of the devils, (and of that which they cause to go astray and lose), and of the oceans and rivers, (and of that which they urge to run, flow and cause to circulate); for the sake of all truths, (everything) concerning Thee is truth; for the sake of Thy confidential Angels, souls resting in peace, celestial spirits, and those, singing Thy praise and glory day and night, (who) never grow tired, slack or relax; for the sake of Ibraheem, they close friend, and all Thy loving devotees (who call upon and pray to Thee between Safa and Marwa, and Thou gives answer to their prayers. O the fulfiller of prayers! I beseech Thee in the name of all these names, and all these prayers, to show mercy to us (forgive us) for that which we have done, (that which) we shall do, (that which) we did not covered up, (that which) we did and made public, (that which) we did seriously, (that which) we did frivolously (light-mindedly). Art Thou not aware of (them) more than us? Verily (no doubt there is) Thou art able to do all things; on account of Thy mercy, O the most Merciful. O He who watches over every wayfarer! O He who gives company to every forsaken lonesome! O He Who defends every sick and weak (Makes grown strong O He who comes to the help of every oppressed! O He Who gives livelihood to every excluded outcast! O He Who cheers up every lonely solitaire! O he Who goes with every traveling stranger! O He who supports every settled inhabitant! O He Who overlooks faults and mistakes! O He who lends a helping hand to whoso seeks help! O He Who brings assistance to whoso cries out for help! O He Who makes less the agony and anguish of the grieved! O He who gives comfort to whoso is an object of sorrow and solicitude! O He who created the heavens and the earths! O He who is the ultimate last resource of whatever is desired and asked for! O He Who gives answer to whoso cries out in desperation! O the Most Merciful! O the Lord of the worlds! O the Requiter of the Day of Judgement! O the Most Generous! O the Most Kind! O the Best Hearer! O the Best Seer! O the Most Powerful! Forgive me my sins that swerve the flow of bounties. Forgive me my sins that give birth to remorse. Forgive me my sins that bring upon depression. Forgive me my sins that put asunder integrity. Forgive me my sins that nullify prayers. Forgive me my sins that hold back that which drops (mercy) from the heaven. Forgive me my sins that urge to bring quickly nothingness and non-existence. Forgive me my sins that draw near misery and distress. Forgive me my sins that bring disorder and chaos in thought and purpose. Forgive me my sins that expose and lay bare shelter and security. Forgive me my sins that no one can forgive other than Thee. O Allah! Take off the load (burden of sins) from my back belonging to any one from among Thy creation; make haste in my affairs, freed of care, brought into focus, and made easy; put into my heart sure and certain belief in Thee, and impress into my mind hope in and quest for Thee, till I turn to no one other than Thee. My Allah protect me, keep me safe in my position, be my constant companion in darkness and light, in (the hour of) comfort, in hardships, in success, in misfortune, in gain, in loss, make easy my course, let conduct of life be good, do not leave me in the lurch, forsaken in distress or difficulty, guide me O the Best Guide, do not let me look repeatedly at my vain desires while carrying out day to day work, let me find happiness every where, make me team up with my family, happy and successful, in this quickly passing life and at the appointed time; (there is no doubt) certainly Thou art able to do all things. Give me the provisions of life as much as Thy generosity approves, open up for me the doors of Thy plenteous, good and clean store of possessions, put me to work in Thy obedience, keep me safe from fire and fury, when I die be merciful and direct my journey to Thy Paradise. O my Allah, in Thee do I seek refuge from the disappearance of Thy bounties, from discontinuation of welfare Thou made available for me, from the torment that may come upon me, from the penalty that comes down upon (us), from the disasters that vex and molest, from the misery (and distress) that takes hold of and lingers on, from violent and painful death, from the pride and joy of the enemies, from the evil that falls down from the skies, from the evil which has been pointed out in the revealed Book. O my Allah! Do not make me be among the evildoers, nor be among the dwellers of Hell, do not keep me out of enjoyment found in the company of the good; make me live a clear and honest life, and die a tranquil death, unite me (after death) with the select pious, let me keep company with the Prophets, in the abode of good repute, near the omnipotent seat of authority. O my Allah! (All) praise is for Thee (alone), (for) Thy smooth and fair system of test and trail (so) clever and skilful. (All) praise is for Thee (alone), (for) Islam, and (making all) follow the "way of life" (of Muhammad (s.a.), O Lord, just as Thou had guided them to Thy religion, and taught (revealed) them Thy Book, so guide us and teach us as well. (All) praise is for Thee (alone), (for Thy smooth and fair system of test and trail (so) clever and skilful, particularly for me; just as Thou created me, (how wonderful is my creation!) and taught me, how thorough is my learning!) and showed me the right path, (how complete is the guidance I received!). (All) praise is for Thee (alone), (for) Thy bounties bestowed upon me, earlier and present. How my agonies, O my Master, Thou has dispelled! How many sorrows, O my Master, Thou has hushed! How many hardships, O my Master, Thou has put to flight! How many disasters, O my Master, Thou has dispersed! How many defects, O my Master, Thou has covered! So (all) praise is for Thee (alone), under all circumstances, in every place, at all times, in chaos, and in order, in the present moment and at all occasions. O Allah give me also from the gifts Thy deserving servants win, and duly distributed today, or the loss showed openly to them, or the evil sent away from them, or the disaster warded off from them, or the good urged on to reach them, or the mercy scattered and spread out, or the welfare that mingles and gets around, so (there is no doubt) Thou art able to do all things. In Thy hands are the treasures of the heavens and the earth. Thou art One, the Kindest Giver who does not send away one who makes a request to Him, nor disappoints one who expects to get what one wants from Him, nor there is any defect or shortage in what one obtains from Him, nor dries up and goes waste that which comes from Him, on the contrary grows more and more, (is) clean, freely given, (out of) generosity and favour. Give me from Thy treasures that which never get exhausted, on account of Thy merciful love and kindness; boundless and fathomless is Thy grant that neither withholds nor is inaccessible. Thou art able to do all things, through Thy mercy, O Allah! Send blessings on Muhammad and on the children of Muhammad.

During the period of Ghaibat, it is the responsibility of every being, rather of every believer, that he establishes a spiritual contact with the Imam of the Age (a.t.f.s.). When a person acquires the recognition of the Imam, a unique relationship is established wherein the heart, as per its capacity becomes a reflection of the characteristics and ethics of the Imam (a.t.f.s..).

Allah the Almighty informs us in the Holy Quran,'O those who believe! Be patient and enjoin patience amongst one another and remain in contact. And be careful of your duty to Allah lest you succeed.'(Surah Ale Imran (3): 200)

The above verse has been explained by the Holy Imams (a.s.) in various exegesis of the Holy Quran thus - O those who believe! Remain patient and steadfast during the period of Ghaibat of the Imam of the Age; be steadfast upon the right path as compared to your enemies and remain in contact with the awaited Imam. Obey the laws and regulations of Islam as laid down by Allah for surely in it is your success.(Tafseer al-Burhaan by Sayed Haashem al-Bahraani (r.a.) under the aforementioned verse)

Some people harbour the misconception that since we are living our lives in the period of the major occultation, it is impossible to maintain 'contact' with the Imam and there is no way by which we can have a relationship with the Imam of the Age (a.t.f.s.). It is important that we clarify this point over here.

As regards the traditions that are available on this matter, it is true that during the period of the major occultation, the person who claims that he can meet the Hidden Imam (a.t.f.s.) whenever he desires is a liar. It is equally true, however, that during this period there are numerous instances of people having been blessed by a visit from the Imam (a.t.f.s.), either in person or through a spiritual experience like a dream.

A little attention to this point will clarify all doubts about the matter of contact with the Hidden Imam (a.t.f.s.). For surely this grace - the opportunity to meet the Hidden Imam (a.t.f.s.) - is a direct consequence of the love and benevolence of the Imam (a.t.f.s.) himself.

Secondly, it is not necessary that contact be maintained only by regular meetings in person. A relationship need not be established only through physical contact. Rather, a relationship through spiritual means can also be defined as a contact. In reality, it is the establishment of this spiritual relationship that confirms the distinguished status of a believer.. And this is the relationship that every believer can establish and through which he attains such heights of recognition and eminence that he always perceives himself to be in the honoured presence of the Holy Imam (a.t.f.s.) and conducts himself and his affairs as if he is constantly under the watchful eyes of the Imam (a.t.f.s.). We have the example of Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.) who narrates in the 'Supplication on the Day of Friday':

'O Allah, I seek nearness to You through a sincere heart (I consider myself lowly before your Might and Majesty), and to your representative - Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) through an obedient body (my body is subservient to the commands of the Imam and I seek benefit from the parts of my body such that the Imam is pleased with my actions) and to the Holy Imams (a.s.) through a humble heart (I prefer them over myself and seek obedience to them)." (Jamaal al-Usboo', pg. 152)

Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.) has drawn our attention to establishing a relation with the Imam of the Age (a.t.f.s.) and even guided us along this path. He outlines how one should present his questions before the Imam (a.t.f.s.) and seek a response from him. In his advice to his son, he (r.a.) mentions:

'O my son, if ever you are presented with a difficulty, the solution of which you desire to seek from Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.), may our lives and souls be sacrificed upon him, then remember the tradition reported by Muhammed Ibn Yaqub Kulaini (r.a.): One day a person came to Abul Hasan (a.s.) and asked him, "If a person wishes to place his desires before his Imam, just as he would place it before Allah, then what should he do?" Imam (a.s.) replied, "If he has any desire, then he must bring it to his lips (he must express his desire); he will receive the reply for it."

It is necessary to clarify the above statement of the Imam. The statement indicates in a simple manner that if one has any needs then he must present it through the medium of prayers and tawassul (seeking help through the mediation of the Imam). It is true that the Imam (a.s.) is aware of the deepest secrets of our heart; nevertheless, he (a.s.) prefers that his followers put forth their desires verbally and express their helplessness with sincerity.

The absolute contact of Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.) and his nearness to Imam (a.t.f.s.) was such that the latter (a.t.f.s.), with his benevolence and special grace, had blessed him with deep knowledge and hidden insights. Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.) continued to bask in the shade of Imam's (a.t.f.s.) generosity till the end of his life. Such was the perfection of his recognition that Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.), while speaking to his son about the conditions of the reappearance of the Imam (a.t.f.s.) quotes the following verse and says:"Allah preserves whatever He wishes. And obliterates what He wishes"(Surah Ra'ad (13): 39)

'If the above verse were not present in the Holy Quran, I would have informed you easily about the day and the time of Imam's (a.t.f.s.) reappearance, may our lives be sacrificed upon him!'

Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.) and praying for the Imam of the Age (a.t.f.s.)

Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.) held the recitation of supplication in high regard. He encouraged establishing a personal and private relation with the Holy Imams (a.t.f.s.) as well. For the sake of brevity, we are unable to delve much into the supplications of Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.), though it is sufficient to say that a comprehensive book can be compiled on this topic.

In his book, "Jamaal al-Usboo'", on the topic of the Etiquette of Supplication, Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.) writes, "An important aspect to be remembered from the etiquette of supplication is that one should prefer supplicating for Hazrat Baqiyatullah, Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) before seeking one's own desires."

He continues, "At the time of seeking their desires from Allah, believers should first remember the desires of Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.). Thereafter, the believer should express his needs. Do not perform prayers, fast or supplicate out of habit. Remember, each person is tested through his own actions which may lead to a false impression and one cannot rely upon such actions. Your prayers, fasts and supplications should principally be for the sake of Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) and then for yourself. This is because the continued existence this world and its elements are contingent to the blessed presence of the Imam (a.t.f.s.). When your very existence is protected by the existence of another personality, how can it be that we prefer ourselves over that exalted personality? Rather, it is incumbent that we prefer his needs over our own and his desires over our own. And this action itself will be a measure of our servitude and obedience for surely he (a.t.f.s.) is not in need of our prayers and fasts. He (a.t.f.s.) is needless of them. It is we who need him (a.t.f.s.). It is through him that our shortcomings and defects will be corrected and we will enjoy a peaceful and happy life."

Regarding the actions for the holy month of Ramazan, Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.), writes in his book "al-Mazaar" about the supplication which is to be recited before dawn (Seher) as follows: "It is the duty of every believer in the nights of this month that before and after every supplication, he remembers the holy personality of Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) - the representative of the All Merciful Allah amongst His creatures on the face of this earth. This is because he is the owner of all that the one who fasts needs. Allah has entrusted him with all affairs.'(Kitab-e-Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) wa Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.), pp. 90-93)

Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.) has enumerated several supplications through which one can reach Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.). These supplications are mentioned in several books. He has also narrated several incidents wherein people have had the glad opportunity to meet the Holy Imam (a.s.). Scholars have suggested that instances, wherein the visitor's name is not mentioned, is Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.) himself.

Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) and supplications

Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) has true affection for those who love him. The extent of his fondness and the importance he gives to their remembrance in his prayers is highlighted by Allamah Majlisi (r.a.) and Mohaddes Noori (r.a.). They have both narrated that Sayyed Ibne Taoos (r.a.) said, 'One morning, after Seher, I visited the Sardab (cellar of the house of Imam Hasan Askari (a.s.) in Samarra) for offering prayers when I saw that Imam-e- Zaman (a.t.f.s.) was beseeching Allah,

'O Allah! Our Shias have been created from our light and the remainder of our earth (teenat). They have sinned in the hope of our love and benevolence. If their sin is related to Your Exalted Self, then You forgive them. We will be satisfied with Your forgiveness. And if their sin is related to the rights of their brethren, then You correct their shortcomings and grant them from the part of Khums which is our right so that they may be satisfied with it. Protect them from the fire of Hell and do not gather them along with our enemies in Your punishment.'

On reflecting on the words of Imam's (a.t.f..s.) invocation, we are overcome with shame and remorse. The blessed personality, whose continued presence ensures the existence of this world and its sustenance - the Imam of the Age (a.t.f.s.), - prays for sinners like us and seeks forgiveness that we may be saved from Hellfire. For us sinners, who are the direct recipients of his love and affection, is it right that we forget him and remove his remembrance from our hearts and minds? Or rather, shouldn't we ensure that we fill our hearts and minds with his remembrance to such an extent that not a moment of our life passes by without his remembrance?

O Allah! Grant us the taufeeq that we develop the sincere love of our Imam in our hearts! Aameen!

OCCULTATION OF IMAM AN IMMENSE DEPRIVATION

Allah, the Blessed, the High says in the Holy Quran:
"The day when We will call every people with their Imam"
(Bani Israel: 71)

Allah, the High at various places, has promised guidance to the people. To fulfill His promise. He sent Prophets and Messengers (peace be on them all) one after another, who called people towards His religion, recognition and worship. When the Prophethood was completed with the advent of the last prophet Mohammad (s.a.w.s.). He introduced Imamat in the progeny of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) so that people may turn to them and save themselves from straying and attain eternal happiness. The greatest and the highest bounty of Allah from amongst His bounties is the presence of Imam (a.s.).

No other bounty can match this bounty. Other bounties have reached their relative position due to this bounty, without which all other endowments are imperfect. As it is mentioned in the Holy Quran,
"This day (on the day of Ghadeer) I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion."
(Maaedah: 3)
"And as for the favor of your Lord, do announce (it)."
Our guidance and salvation depends upon the fourteen infallibles therefore, it is obligatory upon us that we discuss and talk about this bounty.

We would like to make an important point over here. And that is, a believer should never give preference to any bounty over that of the mastership and love of Ahle Bait (a.s.). To consider the gift of 'Mastership of Ahle Bait (a.s.)' as light or equating it with other endowments like wealth, children, business etc. will lead to our destruction and devastation.
The Islamic nations received the distinction of living with the thirteen infallibles and reap benefits from their holy lives. However, the majority breached their covenant with their Lord and the people who actually remained loyal and faithful, could easily be counted on fingers.

Instead of deriving benefits from their existence, the people oppressed and tortured them no end. Their barbarism and brutality had reached to such pits that had they been told to oppress the family of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.), they would have not been able to repress than what they actually did. Notwithstanding such-a disgraceful demonstration of ingratitude and inhumanity, the Merciful Allah did not snatch away the bounty of the physical presence of the infallibles (a.s.) from amongst the people, till the commencement of the occultation of Imam Mahdi (a.s.).
It should be borne in mind that if Allah bestows bounty on any one without he deserving it, then this bounty of Allah is His 'Grace'. If He snatches the bounty after sometime, it is not injustice because he had bestowed it without the person deserving it.

On the contrary, it will be sheer justice. It is not obligatory on Allah that He should always deal with 'Grace'. But on occasions, He deals with His grace and on others, with justice. None of His dealings are devoid of wisdom. It is not necessary that we should . know the prudence behind all His actions. Whatever He does is sheer wisdom, whether we comprehend or not. We can comprehend the wisdom behind any of His action only in the light of the Holy Quran and the traditions. The intellect of men cannot comprehend the rationale behind His actions.
However, from the divine practices of Allah is the practice which has been related in Holy Quran and the traditions is:
"Surely Allah does not change the condition of people until they change their own condition..."
"This is because Allah has never changed a favor which He has conferred upon the people until they change their own condition..."
(Anfaal; 53)

Imam Mohammad Baqir (a.s.) in the exposition of the above Quranic verses says:
It is a definite and certain decree of Allah that when He bestows a bounty on His servant. He does not snatch it till the servant commits a sin which becomes the cause of its deprivation. This is the meaning of Allah's word "Surely Allah does not change the condition of people until they change their own condition".
(Tafseer Noor al-Saqalain, vol.2, p. 488)

In brief, the actions of the people are the cause of Allah, the High, confiscating the bounty from them. Ameerul Momineen Ali Ibn Abi Taalib (a.s.) in the opening sentences of his famous supplication, Dua-e-Kumayl,says:
"0 Allah! Forgive those of my sins which convert the bounties (into calamities)."
The Divine practice shows that Allah's Mercy takes precedence over His Wrath. Therefore, Allah seizes the bounty only when people are ungrateful and unappreciative.

Thus, we are not aware of the actual wisdom behind the occultation of Imam-e-Asr (a.t.f.s.) and according to some traditions. Imam Zaman (a.t.f.s.) will himself give the reason of his occultation when he reappears. However, one of the reasons that we are familiar with is that occultation is due to the anger of Allah on account of the ingratitude of the people. The physical presence of Imam (a.s.) among the people was the greatest bounty of Allah upon the people that was snatched from them. While explaining the importance of the physical presence of Imam (a.s.). Imam Reza (a.s.) says:
"Imamat is complete religion, the foundation of Islam, the basis of all goodness, the discipline of the nation, the path to Allah and the light through which people acquire guidance."
Imam Mohammad Baqi'r (a.s.) says:
"Islam is based on five principles -Namaz, Zakat, Fasting, Ha] and the Mastership (ofAhle Bait (a.s.)) and the manner in which importance has been given to Mastership no other thing has been given such importance."
(al-Kaafi, vol.2, p.l8)
While explaining the following Quranic verse. Imam Mohammad Baqir (a.s.) says:
"Then believe in Allah and His Messenger and the light which We have sent down",
"By Allah in the above verse, 'light' refers to the Imams from the progeny of Mohammad (s.a.w.s.) till the day of Judgment and by Allah these are the 'lights' which Allah has sent. And by Allah, they are the 'lights' in the heavens and on the earth... By Allah the 'light' of Imam in the hearts of the believers, is brighter than the shining sun."
(Tafseer Noor al-Saqalain, vol. 5, p. 321)

When people disregarded this great bounty, Allah, the High concealed Imam-e-Zaman (a.s.) from their eyes. No other calamity can be greater than this concealment of Imam (a.s.) from the sights of the people. The simile of the above is like a child who is left alone in darkness to seek out his way, he is not aware of its beginning nor its end. Resultantly, he will fall a prey for the beast or will become needy of somebody.
Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) says:

"When Allah, the Blessed and the High is angry with His creation then He makes us -the Ahle bait (a.s.), distanced and away from
the people."
(al-Kaafi, Chapter of Occultation, Tradition No. 31)

The presence of Imam (a.s.) among the people to solve their questions and problems is a divine grace of immeasurable magnitude. The concealment of Imam (a.s.) from the sights of the people and their helplessness to reach the Imam (a.s.) is the justice of Allah. Grace takes precedence over justice but the disobedience and ungratefulness of the Muslims has replaced the grace of Allah with His justice.
It is an irrefutable reality that the benefits that we would have enjoyed in the physical presence of Imam (a.s.), are not available now. It is a great loss and nothing can make the loss 'good. We only are to be blamed for the loss and nobody else.
One question arises here: The cause of occultation was due to the disobedience and ingratitude of the earlier Muslims. Then why are we suffering for their action and misdeeds? Is it not injustice?

Answer: Firstly, as we have already mentioned that if Allah has kept His Proof among the people, then it is His grace. And if He conceals Him, then it is His justice.
Secondly, we are also responsible for the occultation of Imam-e-Asr (a.s.) by our conflicts, internal fighting, sins, misdemeanours, etc. These actions are the cause of prolonging the occultation of Imam (a.s.). Imam-e-Zaman (a.s.), in one of his 'Tawqee' to Sheikh Mufeed (a.r.) writes: "If the hearts of our Shias (may Allah give them the taufeeq of His obedience) were united in their fulfillment of the covenant (of Shiasm), then certainly our meeting with them would have not been delayed".
The words of Imam (a.s.) show that our disunity not only makes him sorrowful but is also a cause of prolongation of his occupation and loneliness. In other words, our actions and sins are the cause of sorrow and grief for our Imam (a.s.). If we sincerely love our Imam (a.s.) then let all of us take this oath that we will not commit sins and disobey Allah the Almighty, as these sins deprive us of our Imam and consequently, we lose the greatest bounty of Allah, the High. On the flip side, if we keep our covenant and refrain from sins, we can undo the misdeeds of the earlier Muslims and can obtain the privilege of an earlier meeting with our Imam (a.s.).

Acting by the Command of Allah

قَالَ الِمَامُ مُحَمّدُ بْنُ عَلِيّ البَاقِرُ : يُوْحى إِلَيْهِ فَيَعْمَلُ بِالْوَحِِْيِ بِأَمْرِ الِّ.

Imam Muhammad ibn ‘Ali al-Baqir (peace be upon both of them) has said: “Revelation
(from Allah (awj)) will come to him (Imam al-Mahdi) and he will act according to the
revelation by the command of Allah.”

Invoking Imam-e-Zaman(a.t.f.s.)

O Mahdi! O Braveheart! O Lion of God!
The righteous are awaiting you. Please
come!
O Mahdi! O Ark of Salvation! The world
is engulfed by storms. Ships have been
wrecked. The eyes of your loved ones are
fixed at you. They are awaiting your arrival.
O Mahdi! O Center of Hope!
Darkness has enveloped the hearts. The
helpless and the weak are orphans. Please
come and stroke the hand of benevolence on
their heads.
O Mahdi! O Shore of Deliverance!
The hearts of believers are awaiting you
restlessly. Please come and grant them
tranquility.
O Mahdi! O Morn of Hope!
The night of separation is painfully long.
While most lie in the deep slumber of
negligence, a few of your lovers and adorers
await your luminous reappearance with
restive eyes and restless hearts. Please
come that the flowers of hope may blossom.
Please come that wilted gardens may
bloom again.
Please come that the nightingales may
sing the song of your victory and triumph.
Please come that the meadows and
pastures may get a fresh lease of life.
O Mahdi!
O fountain of virtues! O loftiness of the
righteous! O standard of liberty! The world is
replete with sorrow. Now, please raise the
veil of occultation.
O Mahdi!
O Power of God! O the one with (the
sword) Zulfiqar in his hands! The oppressors
have become extremely haughty and
arrogant.
O Mahdi!
O the Treasurer of Divine Knowledge!
Hoist the flag as the darkness of ignorance
has engulfed the world.
O Mahdi!
O the Aware Eye of God! The ark of
humanity is whirling in crises. Only the breeze
of your reappearance can save it.
O Mahdi!
O Heir of Ali! Our begging bowl is empty.
May the poor receive the same royal
generosity once again!
O Mahdi!
O Legatee of Prophet Yusuf! Despair is
striking the hearts. May the hearts gain the
soul of hope!
OMahdi!
O Messiah of the Soul! Sickness and
helplessness is rampant and widespread.
Only you can grant cure to the sick.
O Mahdi!
O Inheritor of Imam Reza's (a.s.)
knowledge! The hearts are devoid of real
knowledge. Please quench the thirst (of
knowledge) of parched throats.
O Mahdi!
O Obedient Servant of Allah! The
essence of worship has abandoned the
hearts. Please give the life of belief to the
dead hearts.
O Sun of Life!
Till when will you remain concealed
behind the clouds of occultation?
O Bright Moon!
Till when will you hide behind the clouds
in the dark night?
O Spring of Life!
Till when will rubbish sweepings adorn
the gatherings?
O Sharp Sword of Allah!
Till when will the tyrants be let loose?
O Pen!
What has happened to you?Stop!
He (a.t.f.s.) himself is awaiting divine
orders.
Since ages, he (a.t.f.s.) has been raising
the cry, 'Is there a helper?'
There is none to respond to his cry but a
few righteous believers. For centuries, he
(a.t.f.s.) is praying for his early reappearance.
But there are few of true character and truthful
ones to say 'Aameen'.
In the House of Allah, on all four sides of
the center of monotheism, in the presence of
the Almighty, the tongue is in total harmony
with the handwhile supplicating,
"O Allah! Fulfill for me what You
have promised me."
Come!
Let us take a pledge of mastership,
obedience, love and sacrifice at the threshold
of Imamat.
Let us purify our contaminated hearts,
cleanse them of sins and prepare them to
listen to his enlivening and enriching
teachings.
Let us pray for his earliest reappearance
every morning and evening.
From the depth of our hearts and with
utmost righteousness, let us call out,
"O Allah! Hasten the reappearance
of your friend."
Aameen

Seeking of Desires

Allah the Almighty has appointed the infallible
Imams (a.s.) as the media and doors for approaching
Him. Presently, Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) is that door
through whom Allah is approached. The Holy Quran
says,

"And all the good names are for Allah, then
call Him through them."
(Surah A'raaf: 18)

In the interpretation of this verse, traditions say that
good names in the verse implies the infallible Imams
(a.s.) and that we should call Allah through them.
(Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 618, H.2)
Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) is the Door of Allah and
His Name. If we plead to Allah through this all-important
medium, our supplications will be accepted. Besides, it is
the sincere desire of every father or every elder that the
youngsters of the family approach him for their needs
and that he fulfils them. Particularly, when he is in a
position of power and authority. The elders feel great joy
in fulfilling the needs of the youngsters.
Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) is our father, elder and
the master of all bounties. Today, it is an important duty
for us that we present our difficulties to him for their
solution.
Unfortunately, we speak of our problems to
everybody but to that Imam who is able to provide its
remedies within no time.
