Jabir quotes from Abu Ja’far: “When Umar asked Hazrat Ali (ra) about Mahdi, he (Umar) said: OIbn Abu Talib (Hazrat Ali), tell me about Mahdi. What is his name?” And Hazrat Ali (ra) said: “My dear, close friend, our Prophet saas) said: “Allah had me promise not to reveal his name to anybody until he would appear. His [Hazrat Mahdi (as)] name is one of the knowledge which Allah entrusted upon His messenger.

Hazrat Ali (ra), the Lion of Allah (Asadullah), asked our Prophet (saas) to reveal the name of Hazrat Mahdi (as), who will emerge in the End Times and will have the greatest pole and will be the saint (wali) of the End Times. But our Prophet (saas) stated that Hazrat Mahdi’s (as) name would be kept as a secret until Allah would have him emerged and this was a confidential information that Allah had entrusted upon him. We therefore understand that Hazrat Mahdi’s (as) name will be kept as a secret i.e. will be unknown to people until its time to come. That is, Mahdi’s (peace be upon him) name will not be one of the names of our Prophet (saas) such as Ahmad, Mustafa or Muhammad but it will be determined when he (saas) will emerge.

Resemblance of Imam of the time with the Prophet

Among all the people, His Eminence is most resembling His great grandfather, the Mes-senger of Allah (a.s), by way of method, Jihad and revolution against oppression and trans-gression and transformation of the system of the oppressive rulers in society, from theft and
destruction humiliation, affliction and problems. He would replace all this with a system that
would provide every kind of comfort and security and be a cause of general welfare and hap-piness of the people. When the Qaim of the progeny of Muhammad would appear, he would work in the same way as his great grandfather had done. That is why he would destroy the false powers and tyrannical rulers whose power is based on falsehood and hypocrisy and he shall eradicate them completely. He would then establish justice and equity in every sense of the term.
Numerous traditions of the Holy Prophet (a.s) and the Imams of guidance have reached us that mention that Imam Mahdi (a.s) resembles his great grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (a.s). Some of them are mentioned below:
1.
Abdullah Ibne Masud narrates from the Messenger of Allah that he said, “A man from my family would arise having my name, and his manners and habits would be like my manners and habits and he would make the earth abound with justice and equity.”
2.
Huzaifah relates from the Messenger of Allah (a.s) that he said:
“Even if there remains one day in the life of the earth, God will bring forth a man whose name and character will be like mine, and whose patronymic will be Abu Abdillah. People
would pay allegiance to him between the Rukn and Maqam[13] of Ka’ba. Through him God
will revive His religion and bring it back to its early glory. God will also endow him with many victories and there will remain on earth none other than the ones who will declare: There is no god, except Allah.”
Sulaiman got up from his place and asked as to which of his children’s descendent he would be.
The Prophet struck his hand on Husain (a.s) and said, “From his [descendants].”
3. Ayesha has narrated from the Messenger of Allah (a.s) that he said:
“Mahdi is a person from my progeny. He will fight for my Sunnah like I have fought for revelation.”[2]
4. Jabir Ibne Abdullah Ansari has quoted the Messenger of Allah (a.s) that he said:
“The Mahdi is from my progeny, his name and patronymic is same as mine. Among all the people he would resemble my character. There would be an occultation for him during which people shall be perplexed. After that he would reappear like a bright star and make the

earth abound with justice and equity after it had been completely fraught with injustice and oppression.”
5. Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s) has narrated through his forefathers from the Messenger of Allah
(a.s) that he said:
“The Mahdi shall be from my descendants. He would be having the same name and agno-men as I have. He would resemble me most in character; he would have an occultation which would cast people into confusion, till they deviate from their religion. At the time he reappears he shall be like a brilliant star. Then he would spread justice and equity on the
earth just as it would have been absolutely fraught with injustice and inequity.”[14]
6. Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s) has narrated through his blessed ancestors from the Holy Prophet (a.s) that he said:
“The Qaim is from my descendents. His name is same as mine and patronymic is same as mine. His appearance is like my appearance and his practice like my practice. He will establish the people on my religion and my law and call them to the Book of my Lord, the Mighty and the sublime. One who obeys him has obeyed me and one who disobeys him has
disobeyed me. And one who denies his occultation has denied me. And one who falsifies him has falsified me. And one who testifies for him has testified for me. I would complain
to Allah about those who falsify me in my affair and those who mislead the people. And the oppressors would soon realize where they would be returned when they are sent back (to
Hell).”[2]
The above tradition is the most comprehensive one that shows that Imam Mahdi (a.s) would be like his great grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (a.s) in many respects.
7. Abu Salih Saibi in Al-Fitan has narrated from His Eminence, Amirul Momineen (a.s) that he said: “His Eminence, Mahdi (a.s), in appearance, character, habits and good virtues,
would most resemble the Messenger of Allah (a.s).”[3]
Such types of traditions have reached us in large numbers from the Holy Prophet (a.s) and the Holy Imams (a.s). They all prove beyond any doubt that Imam Mahdi (a.s) not only resembles the Holy Prophet (a.s) in appearance and built; he is also having the same type of character and habits, due to which he is more superior to the other prophets of God. Rather in his method of reformation, engagements and his war tactics for the annihilation of op-pression and injustice and for the establishment of equity and justice on the earth he closely resembles his great grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (a.s).
Concocted Traditions
Sources of Islamic beliefs are heavenly revelation, the Holy Quran and the practice of the

Infallibles (a.s). Reason, understanding, conscience and nature are bestowed by Almighty God so that through them we may derive the authentic and correct heavenly sciences and avoid the pitfalls of deviation. All these are provided as internal prophets for humanity. That is why Islamic thoughts derived from these pure sources are actually bestowed by God. They all are pure and conform to reality.
In spite of all this, people of evil and malicious nature and enemies of religion have always been in pursuit to cast doubts and spoil the true face of religion and religious leaders.
That is why enemies of faith and malicious people have concocted many traditions to de-fame and spoil the true Islamic facts and beliefs and these concocted traditions were surrep-tiously included in the tradition compendiums. In the parlance of traditional science these concocted traditions are termed as “Israiliyat.” One of such fabricated traditions is related by Ganji and others that the Messenger of Allah (a.s) said,
“Mahdi is from my descendants. His face is like a bright star and his complexion is of Arab and his body is of an Israelite. He would make the earth abound with justice just as it would
be filled with oppression. All the folks of the heaven and the earth and also the birds would be happy during his kingdom and caliphate. He would reign for twenty years.”[15]
The reason that this tradition is fabricated is that the body of the Holy Imam (a.s) is a part of the body of the Prophet and Amirul Momineen (a.s), which were the most pure and clean; infused with the effulgence of guidance. How can the physique of Imam (a.s) resemble that of the Israelites, while they are having the worst of the bodies and the most evil of the ap-
pearancea They are the wolves among human beings, the germs and personification of low
character. Most probably, the Jews have fabricated this tradition to defame the Muslims on
the basis of their enmity towards Islam and to present their own deficiencies in favorable
light.

Characteristics and Qualities of the Imam of the time

The qualities and merits of His Eminence, Mahdi (a.s) are same as those of the divine mes-sengers and legatees. The effulgence of Imamate and the awe of the prophets was perfectly apparent in the face of the Holy Imam. His description and details have come in the narra-tions as follows:
1. Abu Saeed Khudri narrates from the Messenger of Allah (a.s) that he said, “Indeed, the Almighty Allah will raise from my progeny and Ahle Bayt a man, who would have appropri-
ate gap between his front teeth and have a bright forehead so that he may fill the earth with justice, welfare and economic equality.”[12]
Numerous traditions of the same type have been recorded by the scholars and narrators of Ahle Sunnat from the Holy Prophet (a.s) describing the various characteristics of Imam Mahdi, the descendent and great grandson of the Prophet.

His Eminence, Abu Ja’far, Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s) through his forefathers has nar-rated from the chief of Ahle Bayt, His Eminence, Amirul Momineen (a.s) that His Eminence proclaimed from the pulpit, “In the last age a man from my progeny would rise, having a fair complexion that has some redness (hue) and having a clear and wide belly and his thighs would be broad and his bones shall be long (big) and prominent and he would have two beauty spots one of whom shall be the color of the Prophet. He shall rise up.”

In another tradition His Eminence, Ali (a.s) again mentions about Imam Mahdi (a.s) in the following words:
“He shall have a wide forehead and big eyes and a clear and wide belly, broad thighs, his
front teeth would be sparkling and there is a mole on his right thigh.”[2]

A fact derived from traditions and reports of the Holy Prophet (a.s) is that in his facial ap-pearance he is most handsome and elegant. All physical and facial beauties would be humble and submissive before the elegance of Imam Mahdi (a.s).
The prominent and acknowledged poet, Agha Sayyid Hasan has thus mentioned about His Eminence:
“The elegance came up (arose) through his clear face
The morning breeze spread from his calming countenance.”[3]

Umat Nabi Muhammad SAW yang Paling Bahagia

A. Kata sahabat RA,
“Sebahagia-bahagia umat pada masa al-Mahdi adalah bangsa Kufah.”
Penunjukan Kufah sebagai tempat dalam asar ini bukanlah menunjukkan benar-benar Kufah
yang teretak di negara Iraq sekarang ini. Kufah yang dimaksudkan adalah bangsa Timur, iaitu bangsa
Melayu. Penunjukan Kufah ini adalah kias sahaja kerana pada masa dahulu, Kufah itu dianggap sudah
terletak di timur Tanah Arab. Jadi, kiasan yang paling hampir dan sesuai disebutkan pada masa itu
adalah Kufah. Lagipun Kufah pada masa itu adalah kota pusat perdagangan yang bertaraf
antarabangsa. Jadi memang terkenal kota Kufah ini dan mudah pula untuk diterima oleh akal pada
masa itu.
Disebutkan bahawa merekalah bangsa yang paling bahagia di dunia ini apabila Imam Mahdi
muncul kelak. Ini dikeranakan oleh beberapa faktor yang antaranya adalah,
1. Dari bangsa Melayu itulah lahirnya Imam Mahdi itu sendiri.
2. Dari bangsa Melayu itu jugalah lahirnya Pemuda Bani Tamim.
3. Dari bangsa itu jugalah lahirnya golongan Ikhwan yang setaraf dengan Sahabat RA.
4. Dari bangsa Melayu itulah lahirnya golongan Asoib, yang datang dari Timur.
5. Imam Mahdi dan Pemuda Bani Tamim akan memerintah dunia ini dengan
menggunakan dua bahasa iaitu bahasa Arab dan bahasa Melayu. Pada masa itu,
seluruh manusia akan bertutur dalam bahasa Melayu dan Arab.
6. Di negara Melayu itulah terletaknya pusat pemerintahan Imam Mahdi, yang dari
situlah Imam Mahdi akan memerintah seluruh dunia ini dengan hukum-hukum
Islam yang sebenar.
7. Dan nama hampir dua pertiga benua Asia akan dinamakan menurut nama negara
mereka iaitu akan disebut dengan nama Malaysia Raya.
8. Di sanalah Imam Mahdi meninggal dunia dan dimakamkan (yang disebutkan sebagai
Madinah).

Malaikat Menjaga Imam Mahdi

A. Kata sahabat RA,
“Allah menugaskan malaikat seramai 3,000 untuk mengawal al-Mahdi sambil memukul orang
yang memusuhi dan menentang al-Mahdi.”
B. Dari Huzaifah RA katanya, Nabi SAW bersabda,
“Kalaulah tidak tinggal umur dunia melainkan sehari sahaja lagi, pasti akan dipanjangkan oileh
Allah hari itu sehingga didatangkan-Nya seorang lelaki dari ahli keluargaku, yang berdiri
malaikat di antara dua tangannya dan dia akan mengembangkan agama Islam.”
Imam Mahdi adalah seorang pemimpin umat yang sentiasa mendapat bimbingan, bantuan
dan petunjuk daripada Allah SWT sepanjang masa. Pemimpin beginilah yang sepatutnya setiap umat
Islam berlumba-lumba mencari dan melantiknya sebagai pemimpin. Jika tidak berbuat demikian,
maka kita sendirilah yang akan rugi nanti. Allah tidak akan rugi apa-apa dan Jadual-Nya tetap akan
berlaku juga. Kita tahu atau tidak, kita faham atau tidak, kita mahu atau tidak, Jadual-Nya tetap akan
berlaku juga, walau dengan apa cara sekalipun.
Selain itu, Allah SWT akan menugaskan seramai tiga ribu atau empat ribu malaikat untuk
menjaga, mengawasi, membantu dan membimbing Imam Mahdi. Mereka ini adalah petugas-petugas
yang amat taat, tidak pernah tidur, tidak pernah lalai dan tetap menjalankan tugas apabila diperlukan.
Mereka tidak pernah meminta upah terhadap apa-apa tugas yang mereka jalankan dan tidak pernah
dapat ditipu oleh mana-mana orang pun.
Penugasan malaikat untuk membantu Imam Mahdi ini adalah juga merupakan suatu lambang
bahawa Imam Mahdi itu benar-benar Orang Allah. Hanya orang Allah sahaja yang layak mendapat
bantuan-Nya yang diturunkan dalam pelbagai bentuk dan cara. Dan keistimewaan Imam Mahdi ialah
beliau diserahi dengan tiga ribu atau empat ribu malaikat yang ditugaskan untuk menuruti segala
perintahnya.
Dengan bantuan malaikat inilah juga, umat Islam akan dimenangkan setiap kali mereka
menentang musuh mereka iaitu orang-orang kafir yang melawan. Malaikat adalah makhluk yang tidak
dapat dilihat oleh manusia biasa dan kekuatan mereka adalah amat besar, sebesar yang dikehendaki
oleh Allah. Maka mustahil kekuatan malaikat dapat dikalahkan oleh manusia biasa, apatah lagi yang
melawannya itu adalah orang-orang kafir yang memusuhi Islam.

Suara Dari Langit Menyokong Imam Mahdi

Kata tabiin RH,
“Ketika al-Mahdi dan as-Sufyani bertempur dalam medan peperangan, akan kedengaran suara
dari langit, “Ketahuilah, bahawa wali-wali Allah adalah kawan-kawan al-Mahdi.”
Ungkapan ini menyatakan bahawa Imam Mahdi itu selain dibantu oleh pasukan dari Timur,
juga mendapat bantuan daripada para malaikat dan wali-wali Allah. Maksudnya, Imam Mahdi sentiasa
dibantu oleh malaikat, sama ada yang dapat dilihat atau tidak dapat dilihat oleh manusia, sama ada
yang berada di atas muka bumi ini atau yang berada di atas langit sana. Ketua malaikat yang
membantu Imam Mahdi adalah malaikat Jibril dan Mikail AS. Malaikat-malaikat lain yang membantu
Imam Mahdi berjumlah empat ribu. Sebahagiannya dapat dilihat oleh manusia biasa, dalam bentuk
bayangan atau bentuk manusia biasa. Ada yang hanya dapat didengar suaranya sahaja dan ada pula
yang memukul setiap orang yang tidak mahu mengikut perintah Imam Mahdi.
Adapun para wali itu adalah golongan yang akan muncul semula ke dunia ini setelah sekian
lama ghaib dari khalayak manusia biasa. Sebab itu tidak hairanlah kalau ada orang Islam sendiri pada
hari ini yang berpendapat bahawa para wali sudah tiada lagi di atas dunia ini. Ini dikeranakan mereka
tidak pernah melihat sesiapa pun di kalangan mereka seorang yang mencapai taraf wali, malah
semuanya sama sahaja dengan mereka. Sebab lain hal ini berlaku ialah kerana golongan muqarrabin
seperti para wali sudah tidak lagi dihormati oleh orang ramai kerana mereka telah terlalu dipengaruhi
oleh sistem Yahudi dan Nasrani yang menekankan tidak perlunya kita menghormati sesiapa pun,
temasuk pemimpin kita sendiri, para ulama, para guru, ibu bapa, para wali dan sebagainya. Semua
mereka ini ada salah dan silap, kata mereka. Oleh itu, sepanjang hidup mereka, mereka tidak pernah
bertemu bayang pun dengan mana-mana wali dan mereka juga tidak pernah meminta agar dapat
dipertemukan dengan mana-mana wali, walaupun hanya sekali sahaja sepanjang hayat mereka.
Kerana itu, apabila Imam Mahdi sedang berperang melawan As-Sufyani dan angkatan
tenteranya yang canggih itu sedangkan kelengkapan pasukan Imam Mahdi itu amatlah minimum
sehingga tidak kelihatan seperti sebuah angkatan perang. Mereka sebenarnya lebih kelihatan seperti
sebuah kumpulan dakwah daripada sebuah pasukan perang. Namun mereka tetap tidak menolak
apabila terpaksa menghadapi pasukan As-Sufyani yang lengkap dari segala segi itu. Dan ternyata
semasa perang baru meletus, para wali yang selama ini berada di mana-mana penjuru dunia akan
segera mendatangi Imam Mahdi lalu menggabungkan diri ke dalam pasukan itu.
Bagaimana mereka boleh tahu bahawa Imam Mahdi memerlukan bantuan mereka? Hal ini
sebenarnya amat mudah bagi Allah untuk melakukannya. Sebenarnya para wali itu ada dibekalkan
oleh Allah dengan suatu rasa hati yang kuat untuk melakukan sesuatu apabila keadaan memerlukan
mereka. Tanpa perlu disuruh-suruh oleh sesiapa atau tanpa diberitahu oleh sesiapa pun, gerak hati
mereka kuat mahukan mereka pergi ke sesuatu tempat dengan kadar yang cukup pantas. Ada yang
datang dengan cara terbang di udara, ada yang datang menaiki tikar terbang mereka, ada yang datang
menaiki pelepah pinang yang berjalan di atas air, ada yang berjalan kaki di atas air seperti orang
berjalan di atas tanah sahaja, ada yang berjalan beberapa langkah sudahpun sampai ke tempat yang
hendak dituju, ada yang tahu-tahu sahaja sudah pun berada di sesuatu tempat, ada yang datang
dengan dibawa oleh malaikat dan ada yang datang dengan dibawa oleh jin-jin khadamnya.
Lagipun apabila Imam Mahdi sudah menjadi pemimpin, maka wajiblah para wali ini
membantu pemimpin mereka, terutama semasa memerangi musuh-musuh Allah. Bukan wali
namanya kalau tidak turun membantu pemimpin mereka memerangi musuh. Dan dengan bantuan
para wali Allah inilah Imam Mahdi dan pasukannya itu berjaya mengalahkan pasukan As-Sufyani.
Ternyata bahawa kelengkapan perang yang cukup canggih itu tidak mampu mengalahkan kekuatan
rohani tentera Imam Mahdi dan keramat para wali yang berada di kalangan mereka itu. Maka dengan
mudah sahaja pasukan tentera As-Sufyani ini dapat dikalahkan oleh mereka menyebabkan pasukan
As-Sufyani itu terpaksa berundur dan menanggung malu yang amat sangat.
Maksud lainnya ialah apabila orang ramai heboh memperkatakan tentang diri Imam Mahdi
dan disebut secara terbuka pula, sama ada dalam bentuk pro atau kontra, maka itulah tandanya
bahawa Imam Mahdi itu sudah tidak lama lagi akan keluar dan yang keluar kali ini benar-benar Imam
Mahdi, bukan lagi sekadar dakwaan-dakwaan kosong.

The Mahdi will be so merciful that in his day nobody’s nose will bleed.

His compassion for the poor is one of the signs of the Mahdi.

He has great compassion for the wronged.

In listing the Mahdi’s characteristics, the great Islamic scholar Ibn al-Arabi refers to his superior compassionate thus:
1 He has foresight,
2 He understands the Book,
3 He knows the meaning of verses,
4 He knows that state and actions of those he will assign,
5 He will still be compassionate and just even when angered,
6 He knows the classes of beings,
7 He knows the intricate aspects of affairs,
8 He has a sound understanding of people’s needs, and
9 The manifestation of secret things in his time, because only then will he be able to resolve any problems that may arise.

THE MAHDI WILL RULE THE WORLD JUST LIKE ISKANDAR ZULQARNAIN (AS) AND THE PROPHET SULAIMAN (AS)

The Qur’an reveals that Zulqarnain (as) and Prophet Sulaiman (as) caused Islamic moral values to prevail throughout the world. The hadiths reveal that, just like these two prophets, the Mahdi will do the same:
The Mahdi will rule Earth, just like Zulqarnain (as) and Prophet Sulaiman (as).
(al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar, p. 30)
Four people became kings on Earth. Two are believers, two are unbelievers. The believers are Zulqarnain (as) and Prophet Sulaiman (as); the unbelievers are Nimrod and Bakhtinasr (Nebuchadnezzar). One from the people of my house (the Mahdi) will come as the fifth, and he will be king on Earth.

HE IS COMBATIVE AND VALIANT

The days and nights will not end until a man from the Family of my House (the Mahdi), who will easily prevent disorder and who will not be dissuaded from doing so even by threatned to be killed, appears.
(al-Suyuti, Portents of the Mahdi, p. 13)
The Mahdi will take the matter seriously.
(Barzanji, Al-Isha'ah, p. 175)
He will continue his (intellectual) struggle until all people return to Allah.
(al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar, p. 23)
The Mahdi will settle his account swiftly and will never break his promise.
(al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi, p. 24)
If he faces the mountains, he will destroy them by making a passage through them.
(al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar, p. 39)(In the end Times,Insyaallah!).
Allah speaks of His messengers’ excellent moral values and valiant natures in many verses. They responded to their peoples’ denial, mockery, snares, and assaults in the finest possible manner and always overcame them, with Allah’s help.

Therefore, carry out the orders given to you and disregard the idol worshippers. (Surah Al-Hijr, 94)

Therefore, do not obey the unbelievers and strive mightily against them with this (Qur’an). (Surah al-Furqan, 52)

Those who respond to Allah and his Messenger, despite the persecution they suffer, and maintain their good works and lead a righteous life will have a great reward. (Surah Al ‘Imran, 172)

THE MAHDI WILL ENCOUNTER NEGATIVE PROPAGANDA

In one hadith our Prophet (saas) indicates that all the oppression and the attacks against the Mahdi will merely further strengthen the him:
When the believer [the Mahdi] sees the Dajjal, he will say “O people! This is the Dajjal spoken of by the Messenger of Allah.” The Dajjal will immediately issue commands regarding him and will make him lay flat on his belly and cry, “Injure him.” But that individual’s back and belly will be broadened by the blows. Then the Dajjal will seize him by his two hands and feet and cast him away. People will imagine the Dajjal has thrown him into the fire. But he will have been cast into a garden of Paradise.
(Mehdilik ve Imamiye [Mahdism and Imamism], Ibrahim Suleymanoglu, p. 40)
This hadith states that the Mahdi will be “broadened by being beaten on his back and stomach.” In reference to this, the author of Mahdism and Imam Mahdi says: “The Mahdi’s fame is constantly announced and spread.” Yet since it is the Dajjal’s supporters who will do this, we may say that the propaganda will be intended to tarnish the Mahdi's reputation. The enemies of Islam at the time of our Prophet (saas) used poets, the publishing organs of the period, to denigrate him. These poets behaved arrogantly toward him at fairs and markets, accusing him of madness and sorcery. In the end times, too, the Dajjal’s supporters will defame the Mahdi and seek to damage his reputation in the public eye.
The hadiths describe how the Mahdi’s early years will be full of struggles, troubles, and difficulties. The “Golden Age” belongs to his final years, for only then will the Mahdi and Muslims achieve comfort, security, and plenty and lead lives based on love, peace, and unity.

THE MAHDI WILL ENCOUNTER TROUBLES AND DIFFICULTIES

All of the prophets and messengers sent to warn and call the unbelievers to the true path were rejected by their people and exposed to various attacks and slanders. The Mahdi will also encounter such things. (Allah knows the truth):
“The Mahdi is from one of us, from the Family of my House…” The Messenger of Allah (saas) said: ‘We are such a household that Allah has preferred the Hereafter to the world for us. The Family of my House will surely suffer tribulations, be kidnapped, and exiled after me. The Family of my House will encounter trials and tribulations and be exposed to violence.’”
(al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi, p. 14)
Our Prophet (saas) refers to this state of affairs in the following hadith:
The Mahdi will emerge with the Messenger’s (saas) banner when people suffer tribulations one after the other and have given up the hope of his emergence. He will pray two prayer cycles and then go to them and say: “O people, continuous trials came to the nation of Muhammad (saas), especially to the Family of his House, and we have been conquered and wronged.”
(Ibid., p. 55)
One hadith reveals that the Mahdi will conquer Istanbul, and his assistants will face various difficulties before that conquest and later defeat them:
Allah will conquer Constantinople (Istanbul) for the people of His most loved friends… He will remove illness and tribulation from them.
(Signs of the Judgment Day, p. 181)
In the Qur’an, Allah has reveals that many prophets and messengers were rejected by their peoples, accused of being crazy or sorcerers, and were subjected to many assaults and great oppression. But they remained patient in the face of these attacks and responded in the finest possible manner.

Messengers before you were also denied… (Surat al-An‘am, 34)

We will be steadfast, no matter how much you harm us… (Surah Ibrahim, 12)

But then they turned away from him and said: “He is an instructed madman!” (Surat ad-Dukhan, 14)

Equally, no messenger came to those before them without their saying: “A magician or a madman!” (Surat adh-Dhariyat, 52)

But he turned away with his forces, saying: “A magician or a madman!” (Surah ash-Shu‘ara’, 39)

He (Pharaoh) said: “If you take any deity other than me, I will certainly throw you into prison.” (Surah ash-Shu‘ara’, 29)

O you who believe! Do not be like those who abused Musa. (Surah al-Ahzab, 69)

They said: “Build a pyre for him and fling him into the blaze!” (Surah as-Saffat, 97)

Then, after they had seen the Signs, they thought that they should still imprison him for a time. (Surah Yusuf, 35)

Those who do not believe all but strike you down with their evil looks when they hear the Reminder and say: “He is quite mad.” (Surah al-Qalam, 51)

MAKE A COVENANT TO ALLAH S.W.T.THROUGH IMAM-E-ZAMANA

Come, let all of us make a covenant that we shall
not attach ourselves to any other door except that of
the Ahle Bait (a.s.). (They are the strong rope of Allah
(Hablallah), without fastening unto them, salvation is
impossible). We shall pray for the safety and security of
Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.). We will always remember him
and narrate our difficulties to him. We shall plead to him
from the depth of our hearts and seek cure from him for
our ailments. O Master! We are ill, weak, poor of
memory, backward, harassed, in debts, etc. Master!
Your Shia and in such a bad state!
We know that our deeds are presented to you due
to which your heart bleeds. You are unhappy and
unsatisfied with our actions. We are very, very sinful. We
confess to all these but Master! If unworthy children will
not find refuge in the house of their father, where will
they go? Where shall the subjects go but to the court of
the king? If sinners will not go to their Imam, whose door
will they knock? Master! We are disgraced, ignorant and
disobedient. But we do not have anybody besides you.
You are our refuge, our solace, our shelter. We shed
tears for your ancestors and seek apologies from you.

Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) is the Door of Allah and
His Name. If we plead to Allah through this all-important
medium, our supplications will be accepted. Besides, it is
the sincere desire of every father or every elder that the
youngsters of the family approach him for their needs
and that he fulfils them. Particularly, when he is in a
position of power and authority. The elders feel great joy
in fulfilling the needs of the youngsters.

Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.) is our father, elder and
the master of all bounties. Today, it is an important duty
for us that we present our difficulties to him for their
solution.

We repeat the same apology in your presence, O
Yusuf-e-Zahra, Hazrat Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.). O Master!
Difficulties and calamities have surrounded us. We have
come to you with very few good actions. But please have
mercy on us and grant us in full measure.....

Maxim No. 1

On His Own Description

I am Mahdi; I am Qaem (the upriser); I am the one who will establish justice on the earth as it has been filled with injustice.


Maxim No. 2

On His Own Description

I am the one supported by God on earth; I am the one who shall take revenge on His enemies.


Maxim No. 3

On the Description of God's Proofs

God has kept them away from sins, untouched by flaws, purified of corruption and immune to mistakes. God has designated them as the guardians of His Knowledge, trustees of His Wisdom, confidant of His Secrets and supported them with logic.


Maxim No. 4

On the Fact that God Is With Them

God is with us and His Being makes us free from want. Truth is with us and we do not fear if the people were to turn their back on us.


Maxim No. 5

On Their Righteousness

And they should know that truth is with us and near us, and those who claim the same are dishonest. Except for the misled and those who lead others astray, no one makes such a claim other than us.


Maxim No. 6

On Their Being God's Creation

We are the Lord's Creation and others were later remade in our image.


Maxim No. 7

On Their Hearts Being the Focus of God's Will

Our hearts bear God's Will. When He Wills, we also will the same.

On Affairs Entrusted to Them

Fear God, surrender to us and leave the affairs to us. It is for us to take you away from the spring satiated, as you were taken to the spring by us and do not pursue that which have been concealed from you.

On Not Going Astray

Do not go astray from the right path and strengthen your move on this path based on established traditions by befriending us.


Maxim No. 10

On Seeking Enlightenment From Others

Seeking enlightenment from other than the prophet's Household (AS) is akin to denying us.


Maxim No. 11

On Those Who Do Injustice to Imam Mahdi (AS)

Those who do injustice to me are among the oppressors and subject to God's Curse, because the Almighty says: "Verily God's curse is upon oppressors."


Maxim No. 12

On Those Disliked by Imam Mahdi (AS)

The Lord, His angels, prophets and saints dislike those who are disliked by me.


Maxim No. 13

On Those Who Deny Imam Mahdi (AS)

There is no kinship between God and others, and those who deny me are not with me.


Maxim No. 14

On Those Who Hurt Imam Mahdi (AS)

Only the ignorant and unwise Shiites whose piety is weaker than the wings of a fly hurt me.


Maxim No. 15

On Those who Seize His Belongings

A fire blazes in the hearts of those who unjustly confiscate our belongings and will soon be thrown by their face into that fire.

On Reasons for Taking Khums

I will not accept your offers but only if you become pure.

Neither my forefathers swore allegiance to the seditious, nor will I at the time of my reappearance.

I am aware of your situation and nothing remains hidden from me.

On Giving Considerations to His Shiite Followers

I have not neglected or forgotten you because if so, you would have been long plagued by endless misfortunes and destroyed by your enemies.

On Reappearance Depending on God’s Will

My reappearance depends on the Lord’s Will and this will take place after a long time, darkening of hearts and prevalence of injustice on the earth.

On Not Determining the Time of Reappearance

My reappearance depends on the Lord's Will and those who falsely determine a time are liars.


Maxim No. 27

On Reappearance Marking the Prevalence of Truth

Upon the Lord's permission, truth will prevail and falsehood will be defeated.

On Leaving the Time of Reappearance to the Lord

Do not ask of things that do not benefit you and do not trouble yourself to find something that has not been asked of you.

On Duties of Muslims in the Era of Occultation

All of you should try to befriend us and keep away from things disliked and rejected by us, for our order will come without notice when there is no time for repentance and regret will not save you from our retribution.

On the Reason for His Delayed Reappearance

If my Shiite followers--may god reward them for their obedience--were to unite to fulfill their pledge, our meeting with them would not have been delayed and they would have met me sooner--a meeting based on their awareness and sincerity toward us.

Nothing keeps us away from them, except acts disliked and disapproved by me.

On Praying for His Reappearance

Pray for my reappearance, as their victory depends on it.

The end result--with the admirable intervention of the Lord--will be auspicious as long as Shiites keep away from sins.

Verily the earth will not remain devoid of divine signs, whether evident or concealed.

On the Victory of Truth Over Falsehood

God is averse to keeping the truth incomplete and not destroying falsehood.

On the Lord's Irrepressible Power

The Lord's power cannot be overwhelmed, His Will is irrepressible and nothing will hinder His Victory.

On Seeking Refuge in God

I take refuge in God from blindness after illumination, from deviation after guidance and from destructive conduct and annihilating seditions.


Maxim No. 38

On the Purposefulness of Creation

Verily God has not created mankind in vain and did not left them to wander aimlessly.


Maxim No. 39

On Those Who Appeal for Guidance

If you are in search of guidance you shall be guided, and if you seek you shall find.


Maxim No. 40

On the Virtues of Prayers

Nothing disgraces Satan like prayers, so pray and disgrace Satan.

THE MAHDI’S WISDOM AND POWER OF COMPREHENSION

The hadiths reveal that Allah has bestowed a special power upon the Mahdi:
He is called the Mahdi because he has a secret power that cannot be known by anyone.
(Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi)
Ibn al-Arabi lists nine of his main attributes:
1. He has foresight,
2. He understands the Book,
3. He knows the meaning of its verses,
4. He knows the states and actions of those he will appoint,
5. He will still be compassionate and just even when angered,
6. He knows the classes of beings,
7. He knows the intricate aspects of affairs
A leader who is aware of such things can make no mistakes in his commands. The Mahdi knows how to avoid mistakes because of his comparative knowledge, for his decisions will be directly inspired. In other words, he will rule with the law brought by Prophet Muhammed (saas). For these reasons, our Prophet (saas) said of him: “He will follow my trace and not fall into error.” From this we can see that the Mahdi will implement the Shari`ah, rather than making his own.
8. He has a sound understanding of people’s needs
Since Allah has chosen him, above all other people, to see to all their needs, his behavior and deeds, just like those of a true leader, must be in the peoples’ interests, rather than his own… A leader who engages in activities that are contrary to the public interest and who does not act on their behalf must be removed from office, because there is no longer any difference between him and other people.
9. The manifestation of secret things in his time, which will enable him to resolve all problems that may arise.
(Signs of the Judgment Day, p. 189)

ALLAH WILL PERFECT HIM IN A SINGLE NIGHT

The Mahdi is from us, from the Ahl al-bayt. Allah will perfect* him in a night. (* i.e., will forgive him, or give him success and the inspiration of wisdom and guidance) (Sunan Ibn Majah, vol:10, Bab: 34, p.348)
Islamic scholars have explained this hadith as follows:
The betterment of the Mahdi in a single night refers to his being given eminent status. He cannot obtain this status by work or endeavor. As stated by Almighty Allah in the Qur’an, this blessing bestowed on the Prophet (saas) has also been given to the Mahdi. In verse 52 of Surat ash-Shura, Almighty Allah has said: “Accordingly We have revealed to you a spirit (Ruh) by Our command. You had no idea of what the Book was, nor belief. Nonetheless, We have made it a Light by which We guide those of Our servants We will. Truly you are guiding to a Straight Path.” The Mahdi is the most virtuous and the most perfect person of his time in matters of religion. This shows his greatness, the exalted nature of his status, and the greatness of his rank. (Ali b. al-Sultan Muhammad al-Harawi al-Hanafi, Risaletul Mesreb)
Bediuzzaman Said Nursi refers to the Mahdi in these terms:
In the time of the worst affliction of the End Times, He will send a luminous individual who will, of course, be THE GREATEST JUDGE (a great Islamic scholar to pronounce judgements), and THE GREATEST RENOVATOR (an Islamic scholar sent at the beginning of every century to teach religious truth according to the needs of the age), A RULER, A MAHDI, A GUIDE, A SPIRITUAL MENTOR (a great teacher to whom Muslims devote themselves, the greatest teacher of the age), and he will be from the line of our Prophet (saas).
