Presenting Deeds to Imam (pbuh)

Presenting Deeds to Imam (pbuh)

Imam Khomeini said: All of our acts are watched over by God, the Exalted; and the scrolls of our deeds are presented to the Imam of the age. The Imam of Time (a.s.) is keeping an eye us and you must know that your actions should not be such that when they are presented to the Imam of Time (ajt), he will become unhappy and annoyed or feel embarrassed in front of God's angels by telling that these are my followers; they are my friends but they acted against God's commands. The head of a nation becomes passive when his nation commits offense. When the letters of our deeds are presented to the Imam of Time our deeds should be in a manner that shows that we are obedient. (It is narrated in the traditions that our deeds are presented to the Imam twice a week.).

Mahdi and his looks

Mahdi and his looks

Abu dawoud in his 'sahih' (vol. 4 pg. 88) has narrated from abu sa'eed khudri as such:- messenger of allah (s.a.w.a.) said: mahdi is from me having a sparkling forehead and protracted nose.(47)

On page 98 of sawa'eq, ibn-hajar has narrated from abu na'eem a tradition from the holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) as such:-

'Verily allah shall make a person to appear from my progeny. his front teeth is spaced a little and his forehead sparkling with light.'

The author of «es'aaf-ur-raghebeen» too has narrated the same tradition of the holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) from abu na'eem.

In the afore-mentioned book, ibn-hajar narrates (on page 98) from ruyani and tabarani and they two from the holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) as saying: 'mahdi is from my progeny. his face is like a twinkling star; his colour 'arabi' and his figure like the figure of isra'eel. (speaking allusively of his wheatish complexion, tall height and stoutness).

The same tradition can be seen in «es'aaf-ur-rhagebeen» (page 149).

Author of «es'aaf-ur-raghebeen» on page 140 narrates from «huliat-ul-aulia» of abu na'eem esfahani as such:- 'it is said that mahdi is a youth with black eyes, extended eye-brows, protracted nose, curly beard and a spot on his right cheek and right hand.'

Author of «nurul-absar» narrates on page 229 from abu dawoud and tirmidhi and they two from abu sa'eed who said:- 'i have heard that the holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) used to say: mahdi is from me, having a sparkling forehead and protracted nose.

In the afore-said book, the author on page 230 narrates from ibn-shirwiya and he, from huzaifa - ibn - yaman and he, from the holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) who said: 'mahdi is my son. his colour is the colour of 'arabi' (wheatish complexion) and his figure is like the figure of isra'eel.(48)

Author of «eqdud-durar» narrates in the third chapter from ali (a.s.) who, while describing the disposition of mahdi said:-

'He is a man with sparkling forehead, protracted nose and broad thighs. there exists a spot on his right cheek and there are gaps between his teeth.(49)

In the same chapter of the afore-said book, the author narrates from abu jafar muhammad-ibn-ali baqer (a.s.) who said:-

'Amir-ul-mumineen ali-ibn-abi talib was asked about mahdi's physical appearance and he replied: he is a youth with an average stature and a handsome face with hairs falling over his shoulders and light gleaming from his face.(50)

Mahdi and his character
Ibn-hajar in 'sawa'eq» (page 98) has narrated from rauyani and tabarani and they too from the holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) as such: 'mahdi is from my progeny'. thereafter he said: 'the inhabitants of the heavens and the inhabitants of the earth are happy with his reign.(51) tabarani adds: and the birds of the sky.

The same tradition can be found in «es'aaf-ur-raghebeen on page 149.(53)

Author of «es'aaf-ur-raghebeen» on page 151 has narrated from ahmad and mawardi that the holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) said:- 'glad tidings be to you about mahdi'. thereafter he said:- 'the inhabitants of the heavens and the inhabitants of the earth are happy with him. he shall distribute the wealth equally, free muhammad's 'ummah' from need or want and comfort them with his righteousness.'

The author of «eqdud-durar», in the eighth chapter of his book narrates from ta'oos as such: 'the sign of mahdi is that he shall be harsh with rulers, generous with the people in distributing wealth and gentle with the helpless in caressing them.' thereafter he writes: 'this tradition has been taken from abu abdulla na'eem-ibn-hemad from the book of 'fatan.'(54) in the third chapter and the ninth section of the afore-mentioned book, the author narrates from the book of «fatan» of hafez abu abdullah na'eem-ibn hemad who narrates from abu rumiyah as follows: 'mahdi shall feed the helpless.'

Author of «nur-ul-absar» narrates (on page 230) from «musnad» of imam ahmad who narrates from saeed khudri who said:- 'messenger of allah (s.a.w.a.) said:- 'i give you glad-tidings about mahdi.'

Thereafter he said:- 'the inhabitants of the heavens and the inhabitants of the earth are happy with him. he shall distribute wealth equally amongst the people and will fill the hearts of muhammad's 'ummah' with needlessness (a metaphoric remark of making the people wealthy). he shall comfort them with his righteousness.(55)

Furthermore, in the afore-mentioned book the author on the same page, narrates once again from «fatan» from huzaifa-ibn-yamaan that the holy prophet (s.a.w.a.) said:-

'Mahdi is my son.' thereafter he said: 'the inhabitants of the heavens, the inhabitants of the earth and the birds of the sky are happy with his reign.'

The Luminous Sun

The Luminous Sun

The presence of Imam Mahdi (atf) among human beings and on the earth is a source of blessing, knowledge, light, beauty and all good things. There is no better and more valuable bounty for an understanding and knowledgeable person than to feel that the divine successor, the true Imam, the righteous and selected servant of God is on this earth living with him, seeing him and is connected to him. The Awaited Imam Mahdi (atf) is the expression of God's mercy (rahmat), power and divine justice. Those who can establish psychological and spiritual communion with this source of blessing and divine bounty are more successful in gaining proximity to God because having recourse to the Imam and remembering him elevate us and lead to mental, psychological and spiritual promotion.

The Need of Recognizing Allah's Proof

The Need of Recognizing Allah's Proof

Allah has created man for His worship. Even wisdom dictates that worshipping God is necessary for man. Obedience to Him is the best way of thanking Him for His bounties. However, wisdom on its own is unable to establish the method of worship, as this is beyond its limit. Those who relied on their wisdom in determining the methods of worship were deviated. They ended up worshipping someone other than Allah.
Allah sent the Messenger to invite the people towards the (worship of the) True God. The Apostles tried to arouse man's 'innate recognition' of God through reminders. They taught man the correct way of worshipping Allah so that their worship may become a means of attaining nearness to Him.
The words and actions of Prophets (a.s.) turns the focus of the people towards Allah. The people then beseech Allah regarding all their matters. Here it is necessary to highlight a very crucial point. How do we distinguish between a true and a false Prophet/Imam? In order to discern between the true Prophet/Imam and an impostor we should observe his assertions and conduct. If his words and deeds refrain the people, from disobedience and rebelliousness and invite them towards the worship of Allah, then indeed he is a true Prophet/Imam. As against this, if his assertions and conduct incite the people to disobey Allah and alienate them from His worship, then he is an imposter. Here, his falsity is established by his words itself requiring no further proof.
Hazrat Alt (a.s.) asserts, "Recognize Allah by Allah and the Messenger by his message". (Ref. - Usul'-e-Kafi, Kitabut Tawheed, Vol. 1, Pg. 75)
Indeed the; sayings of the Ahle Bayt (a.s.) are enough to ascertain the veracity of the claimants.,
Ziarate Jaamea fittingly illustrates the eminence of Ahle Bayt (a.s.). In this Ziarat, Ahle Bait (a.s.) have been depicted, "The practical implementation of His revelation, the pillar of His Unity, the witness over His creation, the flag of guidance for His servants, the minarets of light in His cities, the proof and guides towards His path". Allah has safeguarded them from all types of errors, granted them safety from all types of corruption, refined them of all types of impurities and purified them a thorough purifying.
Despite attaining such a lofty station and acquiring complete dominance over other creatures, the impeccable Ahle Bait (a.s.) never invited the people towards themselves. Disdain, self-esteem and ostentation were never a part of their natural disposition. Indeed their natural disposition was in stark contrast to people who are bloated with self-respect and arrogance after attaining some token standing among the people.
Ziarate Jaamea elaborates further the elevated status of the Ahle Bayt (a.s.) thus, "You (Ahle Bait a.s.) recognised the exalted station of God, honoured His splendour, praised His munificence, enacted His message, attested His covenant. You reinforced the bond of obedience to Him and exhorted (the people) towards His obedience secretly and openly. You called unto His way with wisdom and good admonitions. (You) sacrificed your lives in seeking His pleasure. (You) endured patiently hardships in His cause. You established the prayers and paid the poor dues. You enjoined what was right and forbade what was wrong. You endeavoured for Allah excessively..."
Indeed the efforts and endeavours of the Ahle Bayt (a.s.) reaped amazing results for the people and their objective was realised. The Ziarat declares further, 'You manifested His summons, made evident His ordinance, firmly established His limits, unfolded the wisdom behind His laws and exemplified His precepts."
The impeccable Ahle Bayt (a.s.) aimed to execute Allah's message. This message spread to the most obscure parts of the world. Today, whatever Islam is evident in the world is largely due to the efforts of the Ahle Bayt (a.s.).
Allah's worship can be performed only in the manner specified by Him. The daily prayers are a means of worshipping Allah only if the prayers are performed in line with His edicts and decree. For instance, if a person supplements the morning obligatory prayers with two additional units, then this prayer will be rejected and cannot be a way of attaining nearness to Allah, as it was not performed in accordance to His explicit commands.
Imam Jafer Sadiq (a.s.) states, "Allah ordered the angels, Prostrate before Adam (a.s.). All prostrated except Iblis, thus manifesting his envy. Allah asked him, what has stopped you from prostrating in front of Adam?' He replied, 'I am better than him as You have created me from fire and him from clay."
Hence the first person to act on conjecture (in the matter of worship) was Iblis. He was proud and arrogant. Pride for him acted as a hurdle in Allah's obedience. Iblis requested Allah, "0 my God, excuse me from prostrating before Adam, and I will worship you in such a way that neither the angels nor prophets would worship you". Allah replied, "I don't need your worship. I desire to be worshipped in the manner I like. Iblis remained obstinate in his refusal to prostrate. Allah then said, "Get out from here! Surely My curse is on you till resurrection!"
(Behaarul Anwaar, vol. 11, pg. 141)
Thus, it is evident even if a person spends his entire life prostrating in front of Allah, but his prostration is not accordance with Allah's wishes, then his worship is worthless. On the contrary it will only serve as means of separation from Allah.
The criterion for belief is not only to attest the unity of Allah (Tauheed) and reject all partners for Him, but also to seek laws of religion from the door that has been declared by Him to be 'His door'. And this 'Door of Allah' are His Messengers (a.s.) and pure Imams (a.s.) Hence, the belief in Nabuwat and Imamat is an absolute must to consummate the belief in Tauhid.
Imam Jafer Sadiq (a.s.) says, "If someone feels that he can deem the permissible as permissible and the prohibited as prohibited, without the recognition of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.), then he has in fact not reckoned the permitted of Allah as permitted and prohibited of Allah as prohibited. If a person performs prayers, pays the poor-due, performs Hajj and Umrah without the recognition of that personality whose obedience has been made obligatory by Allah, then in reality he has not performed anything! Neither he has prayed nor fasted nor paid the poor-due nor per formed Hajj and Umrah nor has taken the ritual obligatory bath nor observed purity nor considered prohibited of Allah as prohibited nor permitted of Allah as permitted. His prayers in reality are not prayers, though he bows and prostrates. His poor-due in reality is not poor-due. Nor is his Hajj accounted as Hajj. All these are deemed legitimate only if they are performed with the recognition and guidance of those personalities whose obedience has been made obligatory by Allah upon the people."
"One who has the recognition of the representative of Allah and acquires the religion and its laws from him alone, only then has he obeyed Allah."
(Behaarul Anwaar, vol. 27, pg. 176)
Indeed Imam Sadiq's tradition in this regard is most amazing. Imam (a.s.) narrates, "One worshipper from Bani Israel worshipped Allah and dried up like a toothpick. However, Allah revealed to the Prophet of that era to inform him, that Allah will not accept his worship even if his worship makes him disintegrate like the flesh of the sheep when cooked, until (of course) he gains proximity to Allah from the door from which He has ordered to approach Him".
(Behaarul Anwaar, vol. 27, pg. 176)
The above mentioned traditions make it amply clear that the recognition of the representative of Allah is an important criterion for His worship and obedience.. Another tradition from the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) in this regard is worth noting. This tradition has been recorded by both Shia as well as Sunni scholars. The Prophet (s.a.w.s.) warns:
"One who dies without recognizing the Imam of his time, then his death is that of an ignorant person."
(Yanaabiul Mawaddah, vol. 39, pg. 137)
In today's era, belief in the Imamat of Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) is the criterion for Allah's worship. In fact, belief in the Imamat of Hazrat Vali-e-Asr (may our lives be sacrificed for him) is the foundation of the entire edifice of our belief and worship. A doubt (about his Imamat) equal to the measure of a grain will take us away from religion and render our actions void. In this context the following incident establishes the necessity and importance of recognizing the proof of Allah.
There was a family in Bani Israel. Any member of this family who worshipped Allah for forty nights would have his prayers accepted. Their entreaties were never rejected by Allah. One person from this family worshipped Allah for forty nights. Thereafter, he beseeched Allah for fulfilment of his desire. But his prayers were rejected. He presented himself before Hazrat Isa (a.s.) and briefed him about his condition. He requested Hazrat Isa (a.s.) to implore Allah on his behalf. Hazrat Isa (a.s.) performed ablution and prayed. Allah replied to him thus,
'0 Isa! This servant of mine has not approached Me through the door from which I should be approached. While he is calling Me, he still has some doubts regarding you. Hence, I will not accept his entreaties even if he calls Me in such a way that his neck is broken an d his fingers fall apart."
(Usul-e-Kafi, vol. 2, pg. 400, under 'The Chapter of Doubt')
One can well imagine what will be the consequence of disobeying Allah's proof, when the person from Bani Israel only doubting about him. (Allah's proof). When a person beseeches Allah by disregarding His proof, then he has rejected the means of approach appointed by Allah. That is, he has chosen another mode of approaching Allah in grave disregard of the mode endorsed by Him. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) has narrated the following Hadithe Qudsi from Jibrael (a.s.) who in turn narrated it from the Allah, the Almighty who declares:
"The one who considers Me worthy of worship, considers Muhammad to be My worshipper and messenger, reckons Alt ibne Abi Taalib to be My caliph, deems the Imams in his lineage to be My proof then out of My mercy I will make him enter Paradise. On the basis of My forgiveness I will deliver him from Hell and give him a place in My neighbourhood. I will ordain My mercy and grace a must for him. I will fulfill My bounties over him. I will enumerate him among my special and sincere friends. If he calls Me, I will reply to him. If he entreats before Me, I will accept his entreaties. If he asks Me, I will grant him. If he is silent, I will initiate. If he does evil, I will give him a place in My benevolence. If he runs, I will call him towards Me. If he returns, I will accept him. If he knocks on My door, I will open My doors for him. But one who does not attest to My unity or testifies to it but does not witness the prophethood of My servant and Apostle Muhammad (s.a.w.a) or acknowledges his prophethood but does not accede to the Caliphate ofAli ibne Abi Talib or accedes to the Caliphate of Ali but does not accept the Imamat and Wilayat of Imams in his lineage, then indeed he has rejected My bounties. He has deemed My greatness to be of little value. He has rejected My signs and My book. If he turns towards Me, I will hide Myself from him. If he asks Me, I will not listen to him. If he hopes from Me, I will disappoint him. This is his punishment from My side and I am never unjust to My servants."
The last few words underline how important is the recognition of Allah's proof in reaching Allah. (Kamaluddin, chapter 27, hadith no. 3, pg. 258)
Without the recognition of Allah's proof, deliverance from His punishment is inconceivable. Man may do any number of good deeds on account of his knowledge, but if he does not possess the recognition of the 'the True Imam', then his deliverance is impossible.
Imam Jafer Sadiq (a.s.) declares', "Allah does not feel shy from punishing those who accept an Imam whom Allah has not appointed, though they may be from among the-virtuous. And Allah shies from chastising those who believe in an Imam appointed by Him, though they may be from among the sinners."
(Usul-e-Kafi, Kitabul Hujjah, vol. 1, pg. 376)
It should be noted that shyness for Allah is not the same as it is for humans. This only connotes Allah's ways and methods. Definitely, this tradition does not mean that committing sins is excusable for those who acknowledge the 'True Imam'. On the contrary after gaining the recognition of the 'True Imam', one should distance oneself from sins and transgression, so that it can be established that the followers of the Rightful Imam are well aware of the criteria for his belief.
0 Lord! Increase (for us) the recognition of the Imam of the era. With every passing moment illuminate our hearts with his love and grant us more opportunities for his service.

Duty of Shias during the Occultation of Imam Mahdi (A.S.)

Duty of Shias during the Occultation of Imam Mahdi (A.S.)

Allah, the Blessed, the High says in the Holy Quran:
"The day when We will call every people with their Imam"
(Surah Bani Israel, Verse 71)
Allah, the High at various places, has promised guidance to the people. To fulfill His promise, He sent Prophets and Messengers (peace be on them all) one after another, who called people towards His religion, recognition and worship. When the Prophethood was completed with the advent of the last prophet Mohammad (s.a.w.a.), He introduced Imamat in the progeny of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) so that people may turn to them and save themselves from straying and attain eternal happiness. The greatest and the highest bounty of Allah from amongst His bounties is the presence of Imam (a.s.). No other bounty can match this bounty. Other bounties have reached their relative position due to this bounty, without which all other endowments are imperfect. As it is mentioned in the Holy Quran,
"This day (on the day of Ghadeer) I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion."
(Surah Maaedah, Verse 3)
"And as for the favor of your Lord, do announce (it)."
(Surah Zoha, Verse 11)
Our guidance and salvation depends upon the fourteen infallibles therefore, it is obligatory upon us that we discuss and talk about this bounty.
We would like to make an important point over here. And that is, a believer should never give preference to any bounty over that of the mastership and love of Ahle Bait (a.s.). To consider the gift of 'Mastership of Ahle Bait (a.s.)' as light or equating it with other endowments like wealth, children, business etc. will lead to our destruction and devastation.
The Islamic nations received the distinction of living with the thirteen infallibles and reap benefits from their holy lives. However, the majority breached their covenant with their Lord and the people who actually remained loyal and faithful could easily be counted on fingers.
Instead of deriving benefits from their existence, the people oppressed and tortured them no end. Their barbarism and brutality had reached to such pits that had they been told to oppress the family of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.), they would have not been able to repress than what they actually did. Notwithstanding such a disgraceful demonstration of ingratitude and inhumanity, the Merciful Allah did not snatch away the bounty of the physical presence of the infallibles (a.s.) from amongst the people, till the commencement of the occultation of Imam Mahdi (a.s.).
It should be borne in mind that if Allah bestows bounty on any one without him deserving it, then this bounty of Allah is His 'Grace'. If He snatches the bounty after sometime, it is not injustice because he had bestowed it without the person deserving it. On the contrary, it will be sheer justice. It is not obligatory on Allah that He should always deal with 'Grace'. But on occasions, He deals with His grace and on others, with justice. None of His dealings are devoid of wisdom. It is not necessary that we should know the prudence behind all His actions. Whatever He does is sheer wisdom, whether we comprehend or not. We can comprehend the wisdom behind any of His action only in the light of the Holy Quran and the traditions. The intellect of men cannot comprehend the rationale behind His actions.
However, from the divine practices of Allah is the practice which has been related in Holy Quran and the traditions is:
"Surely Allah does not change the condition of people until they change their own condition..."
(Surah Ra'd, Verse 11)
"This is because Allah has never changed a favor which He has conferred upon the people until they change their own condition..."
(Surah Anfaal, Verse 53)
Imam Mohammad Baqir (a.s.) in the exposition of the above Quranic verses says:
"It is a definite and certain decree of Allah that when He bestows a bounty on His servant, He does not snatch it till the servant commits a sin which becomes the cause of its deprivation. This is the meaning of Allah's word "Surely Allah does not change the condition of people until they change their own condition".
(Tafseer Noor al-Saqalain, vol.2, pg. 488)
In brief, the actions of the people are the cause of Allah, the High, confiscating the bounty from them. Ameerul Momineen Ali Ibn Abi Taalib (a.s.) in the opening sentences of his famous supplication, Dua-e-Kumayl, says:
"O Allah! Forgive those of my sins which convert the bounties (into calamities)."
The Divine practice shows that Allah's Mercy takes precedence over His Wrath. Therefore, Allah seizes the bounty only when people are ungrateful and unappreciative.
Thus, we are not aware of the actual wisdom behind the occultation of Imam-e-Asr (a.t.f.s.) and according to some traditions; Imam Zaman (a.t.f.s.) will himself give the reason of his occultation when he reappears. However, one of the reasons that we are familiar with is that occultation is due to the anger of Allah on account of the ingratitude of the people. The physical presence of Imam (a.s.) among the people was the greatest bounty of Allah upon the people that was snatched from them. While explaining the importance of the physical presence of Imam (a.s.), Imam Reza (a.s.) says:
"Imamat is complete religion, the foundation of Islam, the basis of all goodness, the discipline of the nation, the path to Allah and the light through which people acquire guidance."
Imam Mohammad Baqir (a.s.) says:
"Islam is based on five principles - Namaz, Zakat, Fasting, Haj and the Mastership (of Ahle Bait (a.s.)) and the manner in which importance has been given to Mastership no other thing has been given such importance."
(al-Kaafi, vol.2, pg.18)
While explaining the following Quranic verse, Imam Mohammad Baqir (a.s.) says:
"Then believe in Allah and His Messenger and the light which We have sent down",
"By Allah in the above verse, 'light' refers to the Imams from the progeny of Mohammad (s.a.w.a.) till the day of Judgement and by Allah these are the 'lights' which Allah has sent. And by Allah, they are the 'lights' in the heavens and on the earth... By Allah the 'light' of Imam in the hearts of the believers, is brighter than the shining sun."
(Tafseer Noor al-Saqalain, vol. 5, pg. 321)
When people disregarded this great bounty, Allah, the High concealed Imam-e-Zaman (a.s.) from their eyes. No other calamity can be greater than this concealment of Imam (a.s.) from the sights of the people. The simile of the above is like a child who is left alone in darkness to seek out his way, he is not aware of its beginning nor its end. Resultantly, he will fall a prey for the beast or will become needy of somebody.
Imam Mohammad Baqir (a.s.) says:
"When Allah, the Blessed and the High is angry with His creation then He makes us - the Ahle bait (a.s.), distanced and away from the people."
(al-Kaafi, Chapter of Occultation, Tradition No. 31)
The presence of Imam (a.s.) among the people to solve their questions and problems is a divine grace of immeasurable magnitude. The concealment of Imam (a.s.) from the sights of the people and their helplessness to reach the Imam (a.s.) is the justice of Allah. Grace takes precedence over justice but the disobedience and ungratefulness of the Muslims has replaced the grace of Allah with His justice.
It is an irrefutable reality that the benefits that we would have enjoyed in the physical presence of Imam (a.s.), are not available now. It is a great loss and nothing can make the loss good. We only are to be blamed for the loss and nobody else.
One question arises here: The cause of occultation was due to the disobedience and ingratitude of the earlier Muslims. Then why are we suffering for their action and misdeeds? Is it not injustice?
Answer: Firstly, as we have already mentioned that if Allah has kept His Proof among the people, then it is His grace. And if He conceals Him, then it is His justice.
Secondly, we are also responsible for the occultation of Imam-e-Asr (a.s.) by our conflicts, internal fighting, sins, misdemeanors, etc. These actions are the cause of prolonging the occultation of Imam (a.s.). Imam-e-Zaman (a.s.), in one of his 'Tawqee' to Sheikh Mufeed (a.r.) writes: "If the hearts of our Shias (may Allah give them the taufeeq of His obedience) were united in their fulfillment of the covenant (of Shiasm), then certainly our meeting with them would have not been delayed".
The words of Imam (a.s.) show that our disunity not only makes him sorrowful but is also a cause of prolongation of his occultation and loneliness. In other words, our actions and sins are the cause of sorrow and grief for our Imam (a.s.). If we sincerely love our Imam (a.s.) then let all of us take this oath that we will not commit sins and disobey Allah the Almighty, as these sins deprive us of our Imam and consequently, we lose the greatest bounty of Allah, the High. On the flip side, if we keep our covenant and refrain from sins, we can undo the misdeeds of the earlier Muslims and can obtain the privilege of an earlier meeting with our Imam (a.s.).

Identification of the Prophesied Imam Mahdi

Identification of the Prophesied Imam Mahdi

The Holy Prophet Muhammad( SAW) has prophesied about several events that will occur just before the advent of the day of judgment. Among these, Rasulullah(SAW) has foretold the advent of one of his descendants, Al Mahdi (the guided one), which will materialize when the believers are severely oppressed in every corner of the world. He will fight the oppressors, unite the Muslims, bring peace and justice to the world, rule over the Arabs, and lead a prayer in Mekkah at which Isa( pbuh) (Jesus) will be present.

Throughtout the history of Islam, a few individuals -- driven either by the desperate state of Muslims in their community or a selfish pursuit of power and prestige -- laid claim to being Mahdi and found a following among the uninformed masses who were looking for salvation from the heavens. For some of these individuals (like Bab of Iran or Mirza Ghulam of India) the claim to being Mahdi was just a stepping stone to the development of heretic sects which broke away from the fold of Islam. Thus, it is at least prudent to visit the facts of this prophecy and avoid falling pray to false claimants that will appear from time to time.

As Muslims, we should remember that the prophecy about Mahdi is one that will come to pass. This prophecy, however, does not absolve the Muslim ummah from its duty to strive in the cause of Allah(SWT), oppose injustice, and seek peace and betterment of human condition. Centuries have passes from the time of the holy Prophet(SAW) and there is a good possibility that many more will expire before the advent of Al Mahdi. Muslims who are negligent in their duty hoping for a savior are committing a grave mistake and are not following the divine decrees ordained in Quran or taught by Rasulullah(SAW).

Imam Mahdi

The following are the collection of Sahih (authentic) Hadith regarding Mahdi.

Hadhrat Abdullah bin Mas'ood( RA) reports from the Prophet(SAW), who said:

The world will not come to pass until a man from among my family, whose name will be my name, rules over the Arabs.
(Tirmidhi Sahih, Vol. 9, P. 74; Abu Dawud, Sahih, Vol. 5, P. 207;
also narrated by Ali b. Abi Talib, Abu Sa'id, Umm Salma, Abu Hurayra)

The Prophet(SAW) said:

Allah will bring out from concealment al-Mahdi from my family and just before the day of Judgment; even if only one day were to remain in the life of the world, and he will spread on this earth justice and equity and will eradicate tyranny and oppression.
(Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, Vol. 1, P. 99)

Hadhrat Ali(RA) narrates that Rasulullah(SAW) said:

Even if only a day remains for Qiyamah to come, yet Allah will surely send a man from my family who will fill this world with such justice and fairness, just as it initially was filled with oppression.
(Abu Dawood)

Ali b. Abi Talib(RA) has related a tradition from the Prophet(SAW) who informed him:

The promised Mahdi will be among my family. God will make the provisions for his emergence within a single night.
(Ibn Majah, Sahih, Vol. 2, P. 519)

Hazrat Umme Salmah(RA), Prophet's wife, narrates that she heard the Prophet(SAW) say:

The promised Mahdi will be among my progeny, among the descendants of Fatima.
(Abu Dawud, Sahih, Vol. 2, P. 207; Ibn Majah, Sahih, Vol. 2, P. 519)

Rasulullah(SAW) announced:

The Mahdi will be of my family, of the descendants of Fatima (the Prophet's daughter). (Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol. 2, Tradition No. 4086)

The Prophet(SAW) taught:

Al-Mahdi is one of us, the members of the household (Ahlul-Bayt).
(Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol. 2, Tradition No. 4085)

Abu Sa'id al-Khudari(RA) narrated that the Prophet(SAW) said:

Our Mahdi will have a broad forehead and a pointed (prominent) nose. He will fill the earth with justice as it is filled with injustice and tyranny. He will rule for seven years.
(Abu Dawud, Sahih, Vol. 2, p. 208; Fusul al-muhimma, p. 275)

Hadhrat Abu Saeed Khudri(RA) relates that Rasulullah(SAW) said:

Al Mahdi will be from my progeny. His forehead will be broad and his nose will be high. He will fill the world with justice and fairness at a time when the world will be filled with oppression. He will rule for seven years.

Hadhrat Umme Salmah(RA) narrates that Rasulullah(SAW) said:

After the death of a Ruler there will be some dispute between the people. At that time a citizen of Madina will flee (from Madina) and go to Makkah. While in Makkah, certain people will approach him between Hajrul Aswad and Maqaame Ibraheem, and forcefully pledge their allegiance to him.

Thereafter a huge army will proceed from Syria to attack him but when they will be at Baida, which is between Makkah and Madina, they will be swallowed into the ground.

On seeing this, the Abdaals of Shaam as well as large numbers of people from Iraq will come to him and pledge their allegiance to him. Then a person from the Quraish, whose uncle will be from the Bani Kalb tribe will send an army to attack him, only to be overpowered, by the will of Allah. This (defeated) army will be that of the Bani Kalb. Unfortunate indeed is he who does not receive a share from the booty of the Kalb. This person (Imam Mahdi) will distribute the spoils of war after the battle. He will lead the people according to the Sunnat and during his reign Islam will spread throughout the world. He will remain till seven years (since his emergence). He will pass away and the Muslims will perform his Janazah salaat.
(Abu Dawood)

The holy Prophet(SAW) said:

A group of my Ummah will fight for the truth until near the day of judgment when Jesus, the son of Marry, will descend, and the leader of them will ask him to lead the prayer, but Jesus declines, saying: "No, Verily, among you Allah has made leaders for others and He has bestowed his bounty upon them.
(Sahih Muslim)

It is reported from Abu Hurayra(RA) that the Prophet(SAW) said:

What will be your reaction when the son of Mary (Jesus) descends and your Imam is from among yourselves?
(Sahih Muslim, bab nuzul 'isa, Vol. 2; Sahih Bukhari, kitab bad' al-khalq wa nuzul 'isa, Vol. 4)

The holy Prophet(SAW) said:

What would be your situation if the Son of Mary (i.e. Jesus) descends upon you and your Imam is from among you?
(Bukhari, kitabul-Anbiya, Chapter Nuzul Isa bin Maryam)

According to these reliable, authentic, and universally accepted narrations, Mahdi will:

Be from among the family of Prophet(SAW), among the descendants of Fatima(RA);

Have a broad forehead and pointed noise;

Appear in one night;

Appear just before the day of judgment;

Have same name as hazrat Muhammad(SAW);

Escape from Madina to Makkah where people will pledge allegiance to him;

Receive pledge and help of Iraqi people;

Fight in battles;

Rule over the Arabs for seven years according to Sunnah;

Spread justice and equity on earth;

Eradicate tyranny and oppression;

Lead a prayer in Mekkah which Jesus(pbuh) will follow in;

NOT be the same individual as the Promised Messiah (Jesus).

The following narrations have been taken from books on which there is no consensus among Muslim scholars. Their authenticity is in question:

The holy Prophet(SAW) said:

The world will not come to an end until a man from my family (ahl al-bayt), who will be called al-Mahdi, emerges to rule upon my community.
(Bihar al-anwar, Vol. 51, P. 75; Ithbat al-hudat, Vol. 1, P. 9)

Umme Salmah(RA), the wife of the Prophet, has related a tradition of the Prophet(SAW):

Mahdi will be among my progeny, among the children of Fatima.
(Bihar al-anwar, Vol. 51, P. 75)

Ahmadinejad talks about Imam Mahdi

Rasullullah(SAW) said:

The world will not come to an end until a man from the descendants of Hussain takes charge of the affairs of the world and fills it with justice and equity as it is filled with injustice and tyranny.
(Bihar al-anwar, Vol. 51, P. 66)

Abu Sa'id al-Khudari(RA) has related a tradition from the Prophet(SAW) who declared:

The earth will be filled with injustice and corruption. At that time, a man from among my progeny will rise and will rule for seven or nine years and will fill the earth with justice and equity.
(Ahmad b. Hanbal, Musnad, Vol. 3, P. 27)

Abu al-Hujaf(RA) quotes the Prophet(SAW) saying three times:

Listen to the good news about the Mahdi! He will rise at the time when people will be faced with severe conflict and the earth will be hit by a violent quake. He will fill the earth with justice and equity as it is filled with injustice and tyranny. He will fill the hearts of his followers with devotion and will spread justice everywhere.
(Bihar al-anwar, Vol. 51, P. 74)

Ali b. Abi Talib(RA) said, I asked the Prophet(SAW):

"Is Mahdi going to be among our own family or from some other?" He replied: "He will be among us. God will conclude His religion through him, just as He began it with us. It will be through us that people will find refuge from sedition, just as it was through us that they were saved from polytheism. Moreover, it will be through us that God will bring their hearts together in brotherhood following the animosity sown by the sedition, just as they were brought together in brotherhood in their religion after the animosity sown by polytheism."
(Bihar al-anwar, Vol. 51, P. 84; Ithbat al-hudat, Vol. 7, P. 191; Majma` al-zawa'id by `Ali b. Abi Bakr Haythami (Cairo edition), Vol. 7, P. 317)

I heard the Prophet(SAW) declare from the pulpit:

The Mahdi from among my descendants, from my family, will rise at the End of Time, while the heavens will pour rain and the earth will bring forth green grass for him. He will fill the earth with justice and equity as it is filled with tyranny and injustice.
(Bihar al-anwar, Vol. 51, P. 74; Ithbat al-hudat, Vol. 7, P. 9)

Abu Sa'id al-Khudari(RA) narrated that Prophet(SAW) said:

Severe calamity from the direction of their ruler will befall my people during the Last Days. It will be a calamity which, in severity, shall be unprecedented. It will be so violent that the earth with injustice and corruption will shrivel for its inhabitants. The believers will not find refuge from oppression. At that time God will send a man from my family to fill the earth with justice and equity just as it is filled with injustice and tyranny. The dwellers of the heavens and the earth will be pleased with him. The earth will bring forth all that grows for him, and the heavens will pour down rains in abundance. He will live among the people for seven or nine years. From all the good that God will bestow on the inhabitants of the earth, the dead will wish to come to life again.
(Ibn Hajar, al-Sawa'iq al-muharriqa, P. 161; Yanabi' al-mawadda, Vol. 2, P. 177)

Abu Hurayra(RA) narrated on behalf of the Prophet(SAW):

People will pay allegiance to the Mahdi between rukn and maqam (in Mekkah).
(Ibn Tawus, Kitab al-malahim wa al-fitan, P. 64.)

According to these hadith, Mahdi will:

Be from the Family of Prophet(SAW) and descend from Hussain(RA), son of Fatima(RA);

Appear at the end of time;

Appear when earth is filled with injustice and tyranny and believers are severely oppressed;

Appear when a severe earthquaker will occur and green grass will grow (presumably in Arabia);

Fill the earth with justice and equity;

Spread brotherhood, equity, and devotion among Muslims;

Rule over Muslim community, according to Hadith, for seven or nine years;

Live and act with the qualities of the holy Prophet(SAW).

The following are narrations not attribute to the Holy Prophet(SAW) and only represent second hand narrations attributed to companions of the holy Prophet(SAW). Thus, they are included only for completeness and are unreliable.

Ammar Yasir has related:

At the time when Nafs al-Zakiyya is killed a caller from the heaven will say: 'Your commander is so-and-so.' (announce Mahdi) Following it the Mahdi will emerge and fill the earth with justice and equity.
(Ibn Tawus, Kitab al-malahim wa al-fitan, P. 179)

Abd Allah b. Umar mentioned the name of Mahdi in the presence of an Arab who said: Mahdi is Mu'awiya b. Abu Sufyan. Abd Allah said:

It is not as you say. Mahdi is a person behind whom Jesus will offer his prayers.
(Ibn Tawus, Kitab al-malahim wa al-fitan, P. 179)

Mujahid said about Mahdi:

One of the Prophet's companions told me that the Mahdi will not appear until that time when Nafs al-Zakiyya will be killed. At that time he will take the command and will fill the earth with justice and equity.
(Ibn Tawus, Kitab al-malahim wa al-fitan, P. 171)

Nufayl's daughter Umayra narrates that she heard Hasan b. Ali's daughter saying:

This affair about which you are waiting will not occur until among you some seek to distance themselves from the others and curse each other.
(Majlisi, Bihar al-anwar, Vol. 52, P. 211)

Salma b. Zafar reports that one day people were talking about the appearance of the Mahdi in the presence of Hudhayfa. Hudhayfa said:

If Mahdi has indeed appeared while you are living close to the Prophet's period and while his companions are living among you, then you are truly fortunate. However, that is not the case. Mahdi will not appear until people are devoured by oppression and tyranny and there is no one absent more beloved and more needed than him.
(Kitab al-hawi li al-fatawa, Vol. 2, P. 159)

These narrations are based on opinion of single individuals and are not reliable. However, they indicate that Mahdi might:

Not appear until all Muslims are divided and curse each other (i.e. no brotherhood);

Appear when tyranny and oppression rule and no Muslim is free;

Be announced by a voice from heavens;

Fill the earth with justice and equity;

Lead the prayer which Jesus(pbuh) will follow.

The following narration has not been attributed to the Holy Prophet(SAW). It has been identified as false and has been rejected by Muslim scholars for centuries.

Amr son of Shamer quoted Jabir, who quoted Mohammed bin Ali to have said:

For our Mahdi, there are two signs. Since the birth of Universe, these events have never taken place. Those two signs are that there will be Lunar Eclipse on the first night of Ramadhan and Solar Eclipse in the middle of Ramadhan.
(Dar-e-Qatni, Vol. 1, P.188)

Note:

This narration is not attributed to holy Prophet(SAW), but attributed to Mohammed bin Ali. No other person has substantiated this statement attributed to Mohammed bin Ali.

Muslim scholars have always rejected this and other narrations of Amr and Jabir, as both have been known to transmit unreliable and forged narrations.

9th Rabi al Awwal Anniversary of Imam Mahdi's Imamate

9th Rabi al Awwal Anniversary of Imam Mahdi's Imamate

The 9th of Rabi'al Awwal marks a turning point in the history of the Ahlul Bait (peace be upon them) and their followers. This day, which is affectionately known as Eid-e-Zehra – in reference to the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and benedictions of Allah be upon him and his family) – is a day of joy and happiness for the lovers of the Ahlul Bait (peace be upon them). The hadith which speaks about this day, refers to it as the ‘Greatest Eid’ in the sight of the Ahlul Bait (peace be upon them) and those who love and follow them.
Indeed, it is after going through close to 70 days of grief and sorrow in which we commemorated the martyrdom of Abi Abdillah al-Husain (peace be upon him) and his family and friends in Kerbala and the other martyrdoms which we have marked over this period - including the demise of our 2nd Imam, 4th Imam 8th Imam, 11th Imam, and of course our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and benedictions of Allah be upon him and his family) – that we have finally reached this day of blessings when we can adorn ourselves with the clothing of piety (Taqwa) which we have learned from the Majalis over the past two and a half months.
One particular hadith which speaks of this day tells us that while in a gathering with the Prophet of Islam, Imam Ali and his two sons, Hasan, and Husain (blessings be upon all of them), the Prophet, with a smile on his face, said, “It is on this day that Allah will destroy your enemies and the enemies of your grandfather and it is on this day when Allah will accept the actions of your Shia and those who love you." This is the day when the words of Allah came true where He said (in the Qur`an): ‘So those are the houses fallen down because they were unjust…’ (27:52) And this is the day when the Pharaoh (Firawn) of the time of the Ahlul Bait was destroyed…”
On this day, one of the important things which we should bring to mind is the start of the Imaamate and leadership of our 12th and Living Imam, Al-Hujjat ibnil Hasan al-Askari (may Allah hasten his return). With the tragic death of his father at such a young age, the Awaited Saviour began the mission of his Imaamate on this day – and it continues even now during the period of the Ghaybah (Occultation) until Allah permits him to make his advent to establish the universal government of Islam over the entire planet!
We should also keep in our hearts two of the most important pillars of our Furu ad-Din – namely Tawalla and Tabarra – or showing love for the Ahlul Bait (peace be upon them) and those who love them and showing and expressing our dislike for the enemies of the Ahlul Bait (peace be upon them) during this day and the gatherings which we attend. The concept of love and hate is something which is engrained in the Quran in many verses and is something which we must live our life by – we must know who our friends are and love and support them, and we must know who our enemies are so that we can keep away from them and their wicked plots and ideas.
This is the day of Eid for Momineen and Mominaat and marks the end of the mourning period after the events of Karbala. According to Ulema, this is the day when the key murderers of Imam Hussain(a.s.), Umar ibn-e-Saad(L.A.) and Ubaidullah ibn-e-Ziyad were killed and sent to the Hell. When their heads were presented to Imam Zain-ul-Abideen(a.s.) by the forces of Mukhtar-e-Saqafi (a.r.), Imam (a.s.) prostrated and thanked Allah (swt) that HE had granted him long enough life that he could see the heads of the killers of Imam Hussain (a.s.).
This was the first time since the events of Karbala that the people saw smile on the face of Imam Zain-al-Abideen(a.s.). Therefore, the faithfuls of Prophet Mohammad (sawaw) and his Ahl-e-Bait(a.s.) should celebrate this day as an Eid day. Allah (swt) has reserved great reward for anyone who declares and celebrates this day as Eid day.
This Eid day achieves more heights of honor, glory and excellence as on this auspicious day the crown of Imamat is passed to Imam of our era, the last 12th Imam Al-Mehdi (A.S.). A saying of Holy Prophet (S.W.) goes: "One who dies without knowing the Imam of his time, dies a death of ignorance.”
Imam Al-Mehdi, Al-Qa'em, Saheb-ul Asr (A.S.) is our Imam, Imam of our time and as the verse 71 of chapter Bani Israel of holy Quran says: "(Remember) The day (of Judgment) when we shall call every people with their Imam", we will be called and presented with our Imam on Resurrection Day.
Friends of Muhammad (S.W.) and Aal-e-Muhammad (A.S.) should celebrate this day with great happiness, for our joys are with the joys of Ma'soomeen (A.S.) and our grief and sorrows are for them alone.

On the 15th of Shaban

On the 15th of Shaban

By: Hosein AlKhaffaji
On the 15th of Shaban
another flower has bloomed.
In Muhammad's garden
another spring has come.

The holder of Ali's Zulfiqar
has opened eyes today.
The holder of Musa's stalk
has blessed this day.

The sparkling light of moon,
The joy of Haider has come,
The avenger of Hussain's blood,
The Yousef of Zahra has come.

Today none shall be deprived;
for the Imam of his time has come.
Felicitations O' lovers . . .
For Askari's son has come.

Baqiyatullah

Baqiyatullah

The term Baqiya means remainder and the combination Baqiyatullah means the Remainder of Allah. It has a Quranic basis. Literally it means that which is left by Allah. What is meant by this is he is the last personage left for the conveyance of divine guidance. Prophethood was brought to an end and sealed with Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and now Imamate is going to be brought to an end with Imam Mahdi (pbuh). He is the last individual personification of the divine will and the clearest manifestation of Baqiyatullah. He is more entitled to this title than anyone else and on the day when he will reappear, he will introduce himself with this title. It has been stated that when we want to greet him during the period of occultation it is better to say: Assalamun alayka ya Baqiyatallah fi arzeh. (Peace be upon you, O Remainder of Allah, on His earth.)

The followers of Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will very easily accept the hadiths that others find hard to accept

The importance and superiority of Hazrat Mahdi (as)

The importance and superiority of Hazrat Mahdi (as)

It is narrated from Ibn Shirin that: "THE MAHDI IS SUPERIOR TO ABU BAKR AND UMAR (AS) … They asked Abu Bakr:

"Will he be superior to Abu Bakr and Umar?"

"HE WILL EVEN BE SUPERIOR TO SOME PROPHETS!"he replied.. (Al-Barzanji, Al-Isha'ah li-ashrat al-sa'ah, p. 193)

Worldy passions and animal lusts have spread to the utmost extent, they have been torn apart, wolves have descended into the cities and a storm of corruption has covered all places. This in day time, following such a night; [THE COMMUNITY OF HAZRAT MAHDI (AS)] IS THE MOST AUSPICIOUS OF THE MARTYRS, THE MOST SUPERIOR OF THE CERTAIN. THEY ARE THE UNIQUE SERVANTS OF ALLAH. They will resolve all their business through consultation. They are all adept to knowing what is going on around them. As for him [Hazrat Mahdi (as)]; He is the Lord of governance and politics. He will draw the strength he needs from Allah. Because he is a confirmed caliph who knows the tongues of birds and all animals. His justice will apply to all men and djinn. (Al-Barzanji, Al-Isha'ah li-ashrat al-sa'ah, p. 189)

Their numbers will be those of the people of Badr (313). IN THE SAME WAY THAT THOSE BEFORE THEM CANNOT PASS BEYOND THEM, NEITHER THOSE WHO COME AFTER CAN REACH THEM. Their number is as many as those who crossed the river with Saul. (Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir al-Zaman, p. 57)

HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) IS TOLD OF PARADISE

From Ibn-i Abbas; he said: Rasulullah (saas) said:
"HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) IS THE PEACOCK OF THE PEOPLE OF PARADISE." (Fusul ul Muhimma, P. 295; Deylemi, al-Firdaws, Elif and Lâm Section; Yanabee’ al-Mawadda, P. 181, 435 and 489; Nur al-Absar, P. 154)

From Enes bin Malik; I heard Rasulullah (saas) say: "WE, SEVEN OF THE SONS OF ABDULMUTTALIB, ARE THE LORDS OF THE PEOPLE OF PARADISE: ME, HAMZA, ALI, JAFAR, HASAN, HUSEYIN AND THE MAHDI."

(Sunan Ibn Majah, hadith no: 4077, Yanabee’ al-Mawadda, p.435, Ibn Hajar Al-Haytami Al-Makki's books, al-Sawa'iq al-Muhriqah, p.309, Dhaka’ir al-Uqba, p.15, Matalib al-Saul, second edition, Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir az-Zaman, second edition and...)

HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) WILL POSSESS LOFTY MORAL VIRTUES, LIKE THE PROPHETS

Ebu Salih Saibi relates from the Lord of Believers in his work El-Fitan: “HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) WILL CLOSELY RESEMBLE THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH (SAAS) IN APPEARANCE, NATURE AND LOFTY VIRTUE.”

[Trials And Fierce Battles (Kitab Al-Fitan Wa Al-Malahim), chapter 79]

... HE WILL FEAR ALLAH like the TREMBLING OF THE WINGS OF A BIRD [from the eagles]. (Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi `Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntazar, p. 51)

Hazrat Mahdi (as) is totally submissive to Allah. HE RESEMBLES THE PROPHET IN TERMS OF MANNERS. (Al-Barzanji, Al-Isha'ah li-ashrat al-sa'ah, p. 163)

A son of mine will appear, whose manners will be just as mine. (Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir az-Zaman, p. 21)

The superior moral virtues of the Prophet (saas) are described thus in the Qur’an:

And, doubtlessly, you are blessed with a great moral character. (Surat al-Qalam, 4)

OUR PROPHET (SAAS) TOLD HIS UMMAH TO “GO AND FIND HAZRAT MAHDI (as) AND FOLLOW HIM, NO MATTER WHAT.”

Whoever of you or who come after you live to see him, LET THEM CRAWL OVER SNOW TO HIM AND JOIN HIM. Certainly, they are the banners of guidance. (Ramuz Al-Ahadith, Vol. 1, p. 298, No 2)

So whoever of you reaches him SHOULD COME AND JOIN HIM EVEN IF CRAWLING ON THE SNOW, since he is the Mahdi. (Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir az-Zaman, p. 14)

He then listed the attributes of Hazrat Mahdi (as) and said: “HE IS YOUR GREATEST REFUGE, THE ONE WHO HAS THE MOST KNOWLEDGE AMONG YOU AND THE MOST CONCERNED FOR HIS FRIENDS AND THOSE HE LOVES. My Allah! Make his appearance a virtue for the elimination of sorrows and bring the fragmented community back together through him! If Allah grants you success, RUN TO SWEAR ALLEGIANCE [TO JOIN] HIM AND NEVER ABANDON HIM. IF SUCCESSFUL, IF YOU REACH HIM AND ATTAIN THE PATH TO SALVATION, NEVER GIVE UP ON HIM. And pointing to his chest he said ‘How I wish to see him.’ (Sheikh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Numani, al-Ghaybah al-Numani, p. 252)

Ibn Abi Shayba and Nuaim Ibn Hammad in Kitab Al-Fitan, and Ibn Majah and Abu Na’im quoted from Ibnu Mas’ud. He said that:

"... He [Hazrat Mahdi (as)] owns the earth and fills the earth with justice which was previously filled with oppression and violence. WHOEVER OF YOU LIVES TO SEE HIM, LET HIM CRAWL OVER SNOW TO HIM AND JOIN HIM. Because he is Hazrat Mahdi (as).” (Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir az-Zaman, p. 14)

"O lord of the believers, inform us about your Mahdi (as)..." The lord of the believers said: "... He [HAZRAT MAHDI (AS)] IS THE BEST REFUGE, THE MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE, AND THE KINDEST OF YOU ALL. O’ Allah, make the pledge of allegiance to him the occasion of exit from affliction, AND UNITE THE DISPERSION OF THE UMMAH THROUGH HIM.When it is permissible for you, do it, BUT DO NOT TURN AWAY FROM HIM [HAZRAT MAHDI (AS)] if you find your way to him." (Kitab al-Ghayba, [Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 51], Ansariyan Publications, Collected by: Muhammad Baqir Majlisi, Iran-Qum, 2003, p. 184)

Abul Jarud says: Imam Muhammad Bakir told me: “O Abul Jarud! Time will pass such that people will say: “Is he dead? Has he perished? Or to which valley has he gone?” And those who ask about the Mahdi will say: “When will he appear? Have his bones now decayed? EXPECT HIS COMING AT THAT TIME, AND IF YOU HEAR THAT HE HAS COME, THEN STRIVE TO JOIN HIM, EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO CRAWL OVER ICE.” (Sheikh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Numani, al-Ghaybah al-Numani,p.177)

THE COMING OF HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) IS GOOD NEWS FOR EVERYONE

HEAR THE GLAD TIDINGS OF HAZRAT MAHDI (AS).He is one from Quraysh and from my Ahl al-Bayt. He will appear at a time when people are in disputes and social upheaval. He [Hazrat Mahdi (as)] will fill the earth with justice and compassion, when before him it was filled wıth cruelty and oppression. (Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir az-Zaman, p. 13)

All these (portents of the End Times) will be realized in a perıod when countrıes will change, human beings will fall into a decline and abandon all hope for the coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as). Then the qaim (Hazrat Mahdi (as)) who is from by my descent, will emerge with a nation and Allah will make the truth prevail through this nation and crush the superstitious by swords of knowledge… OH PEOPLE, JOY WITH THE COMING OF THE MAHDI (AS). Because the word of Allah is true, it does not come to anything. His Command is not averted. He does everything with wisdom and He knows everything. ALLAH’S CONQUER IS CLOSE. (Yanabee’ al-Mawadda, p. 440)

Abu’l Hijaf narrates that the Prophet (saas) three times said: “GLAD TIDINGS ON THE SUBJECT OF HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) FOR YOU. Hazrat Mahdi (as) will appear at a time when people are scattered and when troubles manifest themselves... (Bihar Al-Anwar, Vol. 51, p. 74)

“Hazrat Mahdi (pbuh) will not appear until people are terrified. Earthquakes and corruption will afflict people first, and plagues will be seen… Hazrat Mahdi (as) will appear at that time. GLAD TIDINGS FOR THOSE WHO WILL LIVE TO SEE HIM AND BE HIS HELPERS. Woe to those who oppose him [Hazrat Mahdi (as)] and reject his commands.”(Mari’ bin Yusuf Karami Hanbali, Fawaid Fawaid al-Fikr fil Mahdi al-Montazar)

Everybody shall sit round him like affectionate father to his dear children, or sitting of a merciful king with those under him, showing the introduction to the cheerful verses and glad tidings in the everlasting house of felicity that those present shall witness for those absent. (Sayyid Murtada Mujtahidi Sistani, Selected Supplications from al-Sahifah al-Mahdiyah Selected Supplications, Nashr Almas, p. 257)
... In one hadith Rasulullah (saas) said: “Hazrat Mahdi (as) will not appear until disbelief infests all places and its commands are openly implemented in society.What applies at that time is the infestation of disbelief. Its power. Islam and Muslims are weak. This time is the age described by Rasulullah (saas), when the people of Islam will be weak. HOW HAPPY THEY ARE. THOSE TO WHOM RASULULLAH (SAAS) HAS GIVEN THE GOOD NEWS. (Imam Rabbani, Letters of Rabbani, Vol. 2, Letter 381, p. 1184-1186)

Those among the nation of Allah's Messenger (saas) are highly perfected in faith. It does not matter whether they are few in number, even a thousand years passes after the death of the Messenger of Allah (saas). The coming of Hazrat Mahdi (as) after 1000 years serves this purpose. THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH (SAAS), THE LAST MESSENGER, GAVE THE GLAD TIDINGS OF HIS COMING. Even the Prophet Jesus (as) will come down after 1000 years. (Imam Rabbani, Letters of Rabbani, vol. 1, p. 440)
